ATV turns to the internet for 2020 Miss Asia pageant

6 Jul – Following TVB's announcement that it will be holding its Miss Hong Kong 2020 pageant online, ATV recently revealed that it is also doing the same with the 2020 Miss Asia pageant.

As reported on Mingpao, ATV Executive Director Chan Wai Kit shared this news recently, saying that due to the popular trend of celebrities turning to online platforms for live broadcasts coupled with the effect of the pandemic, the Miss Asia pageant will be setting up an online competition for the first time as well.

"Interviews and recruitments will be conducted online. We will then choose five beauties to join other district winners, so there will be 15 to 18 contestants overall that will enter the finals together," he said.

Chan added that the winner of the Hong Kong region will be announced in October, while the coronation night will be held in December - though they have yet to decide on the venue.

"We can't hold it overseas, so we're going to have it done in ATV instead. This way, even if the pandemic does not subside by the time the event started, it will not be postponed," he added.

As for reports that there were organisations in mainland China using ATV's name to hold beauty competitions, Chan said that the company has already announced last week that it did not authorise or outsource other companies to co-organise the pageant.

"We will take legal action against those who continues to do so," he added.
