Anson Lo's film with Johnnie To on hold after only 10 days of shooting

11 Apr - Anson Lo recently confirmed that his new untitled movie with Johnnie To has been stalled for the time being.

The MIRROR member, who was asked about the filmmaker's statement recently that their new film has only been shot 10 days for the past three years, said that he has not received any notice to resume work yet, but that he has already reserved time to prepare if he was to return to production any time.

"There were not many lines, so every time I started work, I had to recall the state that To Sir wanted me to perform. He wanted me to focus on the state and not give too much, try to be natural, and not be exaggerated. It was difficult because To Sir has very high requirements," he said.

The singer continued, "Although I only shot four sets, I learned a lot from it, such as the amount of a look and the degree of control in each scene. He taught me a lot."

Asked if it was challenging to work with Johnnie, he said that the director neither praised him nor scolded him for his performance.

"I didn't expect him to praise me. Instead, I expected him to make fun of me, but he didn't. I joined the crew with the expectation of learning, so it's okay if he wants to scold me and not praise me," he said.

As for Johnnie saying that the theme of the film is "hope", Anson said that the hope the director wanted to express was not so superficial, but had many layers. He admitted that he had not yet deconstructed the meaning and would have to continue filming to understand it.

Asked if the delay will disrupt his work schedule, Anson said no, as he has already freed up his schedule.

It was early this week that Johnnie spoke about the project in an interview with Screen Crush, saying, "I have been shooting over a time period of three years, but I have only [actually] shot for ten days."

"I cannot concentrate. There is too much change," he said. "But I must face it and finish my movie."
