SINGAPORE — News of popular American burger chain Five Guys opening in Singapore has been confirmed.

In a surprising turn, their franchise partner has turned out to be the Zouk Group.

Five Guys and Zouk announced on Wednesday (12 June) that the first restaurant would open in the fourth quarter of 2019. Its location has yet to be disclosed, but Zouk’s CEO, Andrew Li, told Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore that it would be “somewhere central”.

The cult-favourite fast food brand is well-known for its tasty burgers made with fresh, non-frozen beef patties. They also serve hot dogs, fries, and milkshakes, and provide free-flow peanuts free of charge. But the star of Five Guys’ menu remains their juicy, succulent and oozy cheeseburgers.

Oh, and you get a choice of up to 15 different kinds of toppings in your burger – for no extra charge. These include the usual lettuce and tomato slices as well as grilled mushrooms and jalapeno peppers.

Founded in 1986

Five Guys was founded by the Murrell family in Virginia in 1986. The chain is named after five brothers who today still own and operate the business. The brand has over 1,600 restaurants worldwide, including North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Zouk, which is known for operating nightclubs and holding events, is making a push into the F&B business.

Paul Reynish, CEO of Five Guys International, said, “We are delighted to be working with Zouk Group as we continue the Five Guys expansion in Asia-Pacific. This will be a rewarding partnership and our respective teams are excited for the future.”

Li told Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore that there were plans to open more outlets across Singapore.

“We have been very cautious when it comes to curating our lifestyle portfolio, in the sense that the brands we take on must share a similar synergy with the Zouk brand,” said Li. “Five Guys, quite simply, ticks all the boxes – customer-centric, true to its vision and a commitment to providing only the best.”

Zouk is making other forays into F&B as well. Li said, “2019 is a big year for us, we will also be launching our first F&B concept in Resorts World Genting in Q3 of this year, FUHU Restaurant & Bar, with esteemed chef Alvin Leung curating the menu. There are also plans to open FUHU aboard our new cruise ships, as well as the upcoming Resorts World Las Vegas.”
