At 29, Adrien Brody was the youngest male to win an Oscar for Best Actor for portraying Wladyslaw Szpilman in the 2002 film, The Pianist. Now, over two decades later, Brody is nominated for the same award. This time, it's for his performance in The Brutalist, a film following a visionary architect escaping post-war Europe and rebuilding his life in America.
While the now 51-year-old is super active on the award-show and red-carpet circuit, he keeps his home life pretty quiet. We certainly have questions about where Adrien Brody spends his off-screen time. Details surrounding his properties are very sparse—there are reports that the Oscar nominee bought a home in the Hollywood Hills back in 2021. However, one property in Brody's real estate portfolio we do know plenty about is the literal castle he bought and renovated back in the mid-2000s. Here's a closer look at the actor's property.
Stone Barn Castle is a massive estate in Cleveland, New York, that was designed by Charles William Knight and took nearly a decade to build between 1896 and 1906. The building actually wasn't conceptualized as a castle at first—it was originally intended to be a dairy farm. However, the farm went bankrupt and was abandoned during the Great Depression, then caught fire in 1946. It wasn’t until 1969 when Dr. Robert Hugel and Alison K. Jockel gave new life to the structure that it was replicated into a castle and kept open to the public for various events and celebrations.
Brody purchased the property in 2007 for $650,000 and made it private property. However, it’s worth noting that, while the artist does stay at the estate from time to time, the castle is not his primary residence. Brody owns multiple homes but is secretive regarding their location, unlike his purchase and renovation of Stone Barn Castle, which the actor made very public.
Brody teamed up with filmmaker Kevin Ford to document the renovation project, which took seven years to complete. Though a lengthy venture, Brody previously told HuffPost that the process was a meaningful one, despite its challenges (including a public split from Elsa Pataky, whom he bought the castle for as a birthday present) along the way.
“I think this experience changed me in more ways than I could put into words. It definitely made me a better human being and a man, because I had to own up to so much responsibility," Brody told the publication. "The joy and the suffering I endured in this only enriches my being.”
To help bring the vision to life, Brody tapped renowned interior designer Joy Moyler for the Giorgio Armani interiors group. Other highlighted features of the estate include ironwork by local blacksmiths, sculptural elements from India, and an art studio for his creative works.
