Adam Road Food Centre 3-month closure for renovations from 1 Oct

As part of comprehensive renovation efforts by NEA, acclaimed Adam Road Food Centre at Bukit Timah will be closed for 3 months from 1 Oct to 31 Dec 2023. The closure at Adam Road may come as an unpleasant surprise to some, as it hosts a few of the best hawker stalls in Singapore.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the food centre’s hawker association chairman said tiles, tables, chairs and lights will be replaced during the upcoming renovation.

3 hawkers at the food centre received the MICHELIN Bib Gourmand award just this year, joining the exclusive list of Singapore’s 79 vaunted recipients.

They are Adam Road Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle, Bahrakath Mutton Soup and Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari.

These eateries don’t tie their food down with extravagant costs, yet deliver excellent culinary experiences all the same. As MICHELIN themselves put it, ‘This value-for-money award proves that great food doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag!’ So before the Adam Road closure, why not head down to try their exalted dishes?

If you’re temperamental with your noodle cravings, Adam Road Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle has both dry and soup options. MICHELIN’s recommendation is the dry noodles but don’t be afraid to choose otherwise. They also have other popular dishes such as Pork Belly Prawn Noodles (S$8) and Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles (S$7), so there is something for everyone.

For those looking to give noodles a miss, bread makes for an unexpectedly good pairing at Bahrakath Mutton Soup. The stall promises to saturate your taste buds with their delightfully rich kambing broth. They serve Mutton Meat (S$7/S$10), Mutton Ribs (S$7/S$10), Mutton Leg (S$8/S$12), Mutton Tripe (S$8/S$10), Mutton Brain (S$8) and Mutton Tongue (S$8). The Bread (S$1) magically transforms into a dish of its own as you dunk it into the bowl. Make sure to savour the broth as it erupts from each bite.

Since they are local favourites, it’s unlikely you’ll have missed mee soto or mee rebus on our little red dot. Impressively, Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari uses recipes that are over 50 years old, so expect refined taste befitting local palates. Netizens praise their gravy for its sweet-spicy balance across the mee soto (S$3.80) and mee rebus (S$3.80). Definitely add on Bergedil (S$1.80) to complete your meal.

Alternatively, you can wait till the Adam Road Food Centre closure has ended before paying a visit. Despite the relatively smaller compound, the stalls here do not disappoint. Unmistakably a noteworthy addition to your lunch spots if you’re ever passing by.
