Actor Wang Xing returns to China following Thai-Myanmar border rescue
13 Jan - Chinese actor Wang Xing has safely returned to China following his harrowing ordeal at the Thai-Myanmar border, where he was held in a scammer training compound. The actor, now visibly bald after being forced to shave his head during his detention, shared the news via Weibo on January 11, expressing gratitude for his return to his homeland.
"At this moment, I have returned to the embrace of my motherland. This embrace makes me feel warm, secure and free. In a foreign country, it is the strength of my motherland that gives me courage and hope," Wang posted on the social media platform.
The actor, who was initially lured to Thailand on January 3 with promises of a film project, found himself trafficked across the border to Myanmar's Myawaddy town. During his detention, he was held alongside at least 50 other victims in a facility where they were forced to train as scammers and subjected to strict control.
Wang's rescue on January 7 came after his girlfriend, Jia Jia, raised public awareness through a viral Weibo post about his disappearance. The case has sparked wider concerns about human trafficking in the region, particularly as another Chinese actor, He Junmin, is currently suspected to be caught in a similar scheme, having been recruited by the same person involved in Wang's case.
In his gratitude message, Wang acknowledged all parties involved in his rescue, saying, "When I was about to give up, you gave me hope, let me choose to believe a little more, and hold on a little longer, and helped me return to my beloved motherland and the people who love me. I sincerely thank you!"
He specifically thanked the Chinese government, the Chinese embassies in Thailand and Myanmar, and both Chinese and Thai law enforcement agencies for their efforts. Wang has since returned via Shanghai Pudong International Airport on January 11, after cooperating with Thai authorities in their investigation.
