"Abang Adik" wins Best Film and Best Actor at the Asian World Film Festival
25 Nov - Malaysian director Jin Ong's "Abang Adik" has struck gold again, claiming Best Picture at the prestigious 10th Asian World Film Festival (AWFF) in Los Angeles. The win amplifies the film's growing international acclaim, with lead actor Wu Kang-ren also securing the Best Actor Award in the Feature Snow Leopard category.
"The jury's recognition of Malaysian cinema means a lot," Ong remarked at the ceremony, setting his sights on the film's next major challenge - its Oscar campaign as Malaysia's official submission for Best International Feature Film.
This latest triumph adds to the film's impressive track record.
"Abang Adik" had already made waves at the 25th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy, sweeping three major awards - the Golden Mulberry, Black Dragon Critics Award, and White Mulberry Award for Best Feature Film.
The film has also received 11 nominations at the upcoming 33rd Malaysian Film Festival (FFM33), including Best Picture and Best New Director for Jin Ong - marking him as one of the fresh voices reshaping Malaysian cinema on the global stage.
