6 rice dumplings to savour this Dragon Boat Festival

Crystal Jade
This year, Crystal Jade has added two inventive options to their rice dumpling repertoire. The vegetarian Eight Treasure Quinoa Rice Dumpling sees an umami-rich combination of ‘chye poh’, shiitake mushrooms, red beans, chestnuts, and more, wrapped within a speckled mix of rice and protein-rich purple quinoa. For more local flavour, look no further than the spicy “hei bi hiam” rice dumpling—featuring a rich filling of diced chicken tossed with spicy dried shrimp paste and Hokkaido conpoy.
Traditionalists will enjoy Crystal Jade’s more classic offerings, including a deluxe Hong Kong-style dumpling chock-full with Jinhua ham, roast pork and duck and conpoy, and the timelss five-spice marinated pork rice dumpling. If you like, order a bundle of three of these delicious parcels at S$23.33.
Paradise Group
This June, Paradise Group’s Teochew heritage comes to the fore with their new braised specialities dumpling: a savoury, comforting combination of Teochew braised duck, pork belly, braised tau pok and peanuts, salted egg yolk and more, wrapped in glutinous rice made fragrant with a dash of sesame oil. But their other non-traditional offerings are just as impressive.
With an array of options that include a Black Truffle Five Grain Dumpling (where a traditional pork belly dumpling is upgraded with truffle oil and five-grain rice), premium abalone dumpling, and salted pork belly wrapped in high-fiber brown rice, there’s definitely something to satisfy all tastebuds. There are also red bean dumplings for the sweet-tooth. Pre-order your dumplings by 19 June.

Peach Blossoms, Park Royal Collection Marina Bay
Cantonese restaurant Peach Blossoms is offering three rice dumpling flavours and a bundle set, from now till 25 June. The classic XO Cantonese Rice Dumpling brimming with premium ingredients like abalone, Iberico pork belly, dried oyster, conpoy, and Japanese flower mushroom, is perked up with the chef’s homemade XO sauce.
This parcel-shaped rice dumpling is great for sharing between four persons. Or consider the best-selling Traditional Hakka Rice Dumpling, generously stuffed with Iberico pork belly, Japanese mushroom, dried shrimp, chestnut, salted yolk and fermented bean curd. For something special, sink your teeth into the Hokkaido Sweet Potato “Lava” Rice Dumpling, made with purple and orange Hokkaido sweet potato custard and butterfly pea rice. These dumplings are available for delivery or self-collection via drive-through at the hotel’s main entrance from 11am to 9.30pm daily.

Li Bai Cantonese Restaurant, Sheraton
For a dumpling with a little more finesse, we recommend the Abalone and Pumpkin Rice Dumpling from Li Bai Restaurant’s chef Chung Yiu Ming. Clocking in at an impressive 600g, the dumpling is stuffed with whole abalone, pumpkin, Chinese mushroom, and pork belly—a perfect, healthy addition to a high-end Dragon Boat Festival celebration.
For something a little more close to home, why not try the Teochew Rice Dumpling? Inspired by chef Chung’s memories of family meals whipped up by his mother, the dumpling’s filling of braised Irish duck, pork belly, beancurd, and salted egg yolk is sure to satisfy.
Jade Restaurant, Fullerton
This year, Jade Restaurant leans into the classical dumpling repertoire, focusing on top-notch ingredients and traditional flavours. The chef’s five-spice pork glutinous rice dumpling is generously filled with pork belly, fresh pork fat, and black mushroom, while the Hong Kong-style abalone dumpling features 10-head abalone, dried scallop, roast duck, pork belly, and more.
For a healthy (and no less gourmet) option, go for the vegetarian five-grain rice dumpling. A medley of pan-fried mushrooms and Omnipork, a flavourful blend of plant-based protein from non-GMO ingredients, comes cradled in a five spice-scented mix of glutinous rice, organic millet, and other wholesome grains.
Pang's Hakka Delicacies
If you want to try something different this year, seek out the hand-crafted Hakka rice dumplings by Chef Pang Kok Keong of Antoinette. You can’t beat the unique flavours of the Hakka Red Wine Chicken Dumpling – fragrant glutinous rice is bundled with chicken thigh, red lees, black fungus, and beancurd, or the rustic flavours of Hakka Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Leaf Dumpling.
For S$25, you can get the Hakka Experience Dumpling Bundle comprising Hakka Salted Egg Dumpling with pork belly, Chinese mushroom, dried cuttlefish, peanuts, and Italian chestnuts; Hakka Pang Mochi Dumpling; Hakka Red Wine Chicken Dumpling; and Hakka Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Leaf Dumpling. You can either collect at 30 Penhas Road or have them delivered to your home.
