Celine Dion says she can still connect with audiences young and old, ahead of first show in Singapore
Even after three decades in show business, pop diva Celine Dion has no concerns about her ability to connect with younger audiences.
Speaking with media in a phone interview ahead of her first concerts in Singapore, the 50-year-old singer said, “I can connect with any age. I have no problem with eight years old and nine years old. When I’m up on stage here at Caesar’s Palace, I look and there’re young kids, and there’re 25 to 30-year olds. And there’s grandmas as well.”
“I don’t even know who my audience is anymore!” she quipped.
Ticket sales will begin on 17 May at 10am for the Grammy award winner’s shows in Singapore on 3 and 4 July at Marina Bay Sands as part of the Celine Dion Live 2018 tour. Tickets are priced at $150 to $550 for regular tickets, and $800 and $1,200 for VIP and VVIP tickets – making them among the most expensive concert tickets in Singapore to date.
The Asia-Pacific tour will see Dion performing for the first time in cities like Singapore, Jakarta, Taipei, Manila and Bangkok. The last time she performed in the region was in 2008, but Singapore fans could only catch her at the nearest concert in Kuala Lumpur.
Audiences can look forward to a very different show from her current gig in Las Vegas, where she has a residency at Caesars Palace.
“It will not be the show from Las Vegas, that’s for sure. But I’m gonna sing the songs that hopefully you want to hear,” said Dion. “There are some songs from my repertoire… that I cannot go on tour and go on stage and not sing them. Like, I cannot do this show and not sing the The Power of Love, My Heart Will Go On, and Because You Love Me.”
The international star dominated the pop charts in the 1990s with powerful ballads including Think Twice, It’s All Coming Back to Me Now and To Love You More. She is one of the highest-earning musicians in history with almost 250 million albums sold throughout a career spanning over 30 years.
Dion is currently recording an English-language album. She does not know if it will be ready for her to sing in Singapore, but if it is, she says she will sing a few new songs. Otherwise, she promises to come back to Singapore to sing her new album.
When asked how she keeps it fresh for herself after all these years, Dion said half-jokingly, “Fresh? I brush my teeth every morning, I take a shower, I do my vocal exercise, and then I do my show, I go back home and take another shower.”
