As you become a parent, there is no way to run away from the responsibility of looking after the well-being of your kids, and one of the aspects of ensuring your children’s growth is ensuring that they are being well-fed.
Thankful to the five-day work week we have here in Singapore, parents who are working adults can have the full weekend spent with family and kids. With that, I believe most of us agree that one of the ways of bonding together with our family is to spend an afternoon or evening out at a fun, kid-friendly restaurant.
As such, I have compiled a list of restaurants and cafes in Singapore which not only serve up good eats, but that are also equipped with facilities and entertainment sure to keep the young and energetic ones occupied during a night-out with the entire family.
1. Open Farm Community
Located right next to Dempsey Hill, Open Farm Community showcases a relatively new concept of farm-to-table dining here in Singapore. The restaurant seeks to provide a platform for families to explore the many facets of food, through sharing done over the in-house vegetable and fruit orchards, gardening workshops as well as dining.
Through such quality time spent together, inter-generational relationships within the family is very much likely to strengthen. You’ll be surprise that the restaurant has interesting activities that engages both the young and old. One of which is lawn bowling that is held in a open-space area next to the alfresco dining venue.

2. Huber’s Bistro
Huber’s Bistro was flourishing so well in its trade at Dempsey Hill, so much that it moved down the hill to a bigger place. The ‘newly colonized’ area is an expansion of the bistro, and add-on premise to the two-storey butchery Huber’s occupies at the top of the hill.
Nestled in nature, the bistro now has a casual, more alfresco-themed dining ambience to it. It even has a soft-fall playground next to it, where which you can park your young ones as you and your spouse relax over your weekend brunch and date.

3. Jamie’s Italian
A father of good kids’ nutrition, Jamie’s Italian is celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s first entry to Singapore. With two branches located at family-friendly shopping centres The Forum and VivoCity, the restaurant has a specially-curated kids’ menu – presented in the design of a classic red ViewMaster.
Featuring a lineup of homemade Italian favourites ranging from antipasti planks, various conjures of pasta and delectable desserts, your whole family can pick and share from a menu consisting of a plethora of delights.
Special highlight goes to the Jamie’s Italian VivoCity branch which has a free outdoor waterplay area for the kids to have a great timeout after dining at the restaurant.

4. Kith Cafe
Very much appealing to exercising mamas-with-young kiddos, Kith Cafe opens early at 7am and has two of its branches located near the waterfront – breathtaking view and relaxing ambience for chill-outing with your loved ones.
Choose to dine at either Kith Sentosa Cove or Kith Robertson Quay, and let your kiddos have the freedom of scooting along the terrain by the riverside. Topping it well, the cafe also provides and abundance of toys for the young ones to toggle with while mummy gives herself a break over a cuppa.

5. Picotin Express
Picotin Express has three outlets span almost evenly islandwide, but I’d like to specially highlight its branch at Bukit Timah, which is equipped with features and amenities that deem it a unique dining arena.
Nestled within the lush green Champions Public Golf Course, the restaurant unveils an alfresco deck, offering you an escapade from the bustles and busyness of your daily chores.
A highlight of Picotin’s outlet at Bukit Timah is the mini golf course for the kids. Whereas all the others of Picotin Express’ branches serve up a spot on drinks, ice-cream, pizza and pasta sure to please the appetites of these young ones with developing tummies.

Timbre@Gillman offers a hideout for the appreciation of live music in the good company of other talented arts cluster. The restaurant holds a ‘Saturday Social BBQ’ every Saturday of the month, when which music-loving parents can sip through acoustic music with their beers while their kids are kept occupied with engaging activities at the play area with station games and two bouncy castles.
There are different themes each month for the kids too, with fun-filled activities for the little ones. Makes this good quality time spent through the picking up of skills, together as a family.

10. PS. Cafe at Harding Road
At PS. Cafe’s outlet at Harding Road (Dempsey Hill), the soft lighting and relaxing music coupled with an unimpeded view of the surrounding greenery makes this restaurant the ideal place to hang out with your loved ones.
The food is sumptuous and unbelievably generous in terms of their serving. Special highlight goes to the chocolate blackout cake – heavenly gratification for all chocolate lovers and those with a sweet tooth, very popular amongst kids as well. Don’t be surprise, but a serving of this can satisfy the appetites of four – perfect for the family share and savour together.
Head out to the outdoor lawn just at the doorstep of the restaurant after your brunch or dessert family treat, and let the young ones be entertained for a good couple of hours.

11. District 10 at UE Square
Mention District 10 Bar & Restaurant and you’ll most probably think of working adults hanging out after hours, and not so much of a restaurant for family. However, the branch here at UE Square is an exception. Come the weekend, the restaurant blows up its bright and colourful bouncy castle, giving your kids somewhere to let loose while you chill out for a while.
On top of that, there’s also the Special Kids’ Menu which will satiate the young ones with delicious portions of the Black Angus Mini Burger with Fries ($9), Fish Fritters with Sautéed Vegetables ($9) or the Roasted Mini Chipolata with Fried Eggs and Fries ($9) – just to name a few dishes.

12. Seb’s Bistro & The Playhouse
You’ll be more than delighted to know of a place where which you can have a peaceful meal with your friends, while ensuring that your playing and screaming kiddos are safely, having tremendous fun.
At Seb’s Bistro & The Playhouse, the bistro-style restaurant has a fully-equipped indoor playhouse plus an outdoor enclosed trampoline – indeed much fun in store for the young ones while the adults get down to serious talk with their peers.
Ranging from a cooking kitchen play area, dress-up play area, to train sets as well as a slide with ball pit, I must emphasise that the indoor playhouse is a haven for kids.
Note that there are charges for playtime at The Playhouse – $7 for the first hour, and another $7 for subsequent hours. 2-hour playtime promotion available at $12 on weekdays and $18 on weekends.

13. The Bank Bar + Bistro
Located within the CBD, The Bank Bar + Bistro exudes an old-world charm with its dark wood furnishings and leather seatings. Many would think that this is an after-hour hangout place for working adults, but you’ll be surprise to find a delightful playroom situated at a corner of the bistro.
Another piece of good news for parents – kid dines free with a main course purchased by a paying adult. The Kids Menu consists of an extensive range of food, and comes in a form of a colouring sheet with a pack of colouring pencils to keep those tiny hands busy.

14. A for Arbite
A for Arbite is the sister outlet to the flagship restaurant Arbite. This place serves up Western fusion cuisine and a large array of beverages ranging from fragrant and flavourful gourmet tea, coffee, Belgium craft beers, and other specialty drinks.
The interior is the design of a classroom, very much kid-friendly and educational in terms of style. The kids menu are large in serving portions and I especially love the Lego and pick-up stick sets they have in store – engages the fine motor skills for the tiny hands at play.

15. Riders Cafe
Tucked in the midst of lush greenery at the heart of the Bukit Timah is one of the most unique venues – a cafe that grants you the privilege of dining up-close with horses.
Displaying an old world charm and a relaxing ambience, the cafe not only appeals to fans of the equestrian variety, but also to folks of all walks of life seeking a breather from our fast-paced city life.
Head down on a Sunday and with just $10, kids can enjoy pony rides at nearby Bukit Timah Saddle Club. Other special features of the cafe include an outdoor playground and watching horses from the restaurant’s outdoor deck.

16. Brussels Sprouts
A Belgium bistro that is famous for its mussels as well as around 200 different brands of beer, Brussels Sprouts is very much a kid and friend restaurant. With two branches situated at hot weekend family hangout spots – Big Splash, Robertson Quay and Sentosa Cove, the bistro sets up its own playground on the lawns as well as an indoor play area within the interior.

If you’re looking for something a little different – such as letting the young ones play at the beach while you relax with a cold drink with your spouse, Trapizza is the gem hideout. Nothing beats a time of alfresco chill-out with the cool palm breeze kissing your face.
Nonetheless, this bistro is also an exhilarating dining venue for a weekend late morning of fun, play and entertainment for the kids and the family. The whole family can head to the beach for a paddle before the noon sun sets in. After which, parents can mosey up for a pizza and a tipple, while the kiddos cavort in the play gyms.

18. Spruce
Nestled amongst the lush green nature at its Phoenix Park branch is Spruce – an American-Italian restaurant that serves up hearty brunches for your late morning fix with the fam. The kiddos are in for outdoor fun play, as Spruce sets up its bouncy castle on weekends.
Not forgetting to engage the older kids as well, there’s also an outdoor shady playground within walking distance and by the access of stairs. Just be equipped with mozzie sprays and bring along your cuppa to supervise your kids there, for you do not wish to walk a distance back to the restaurant to get your beverage need fixed.

19. Cafe Melba
Tucked away in Goodman Arts Centre, away from the bustles of the city is Cafe Melba – an ideal place for a laid-back meal with either friends or family. An Australian-inspired cafe, the cafe serves up a perennial of classics as well as gourmet coffees and luxury teas.
What I love most about Cafe Melba is the layout of the restaurant. Patrons have the freedom of choosing whether to dine indoors or out within the ambience of the widespread lawn – excellent for you to lay your mats for a picnic-style of dine with your fam.
Cafe Melba also blows up its bouncy castle on weekends, and parents can keep your eyes on your kids in the midst of your alfresco dining. With a wide range of beverages in store, you and your child can choose from a series of indulgent milkshakes such as the peanut butter milkshake to healthier drinks that include carrot, beet and celery juice which work well in cooling oneself while relaxing in the outdoors.
Not forgetting the special kids menu which consists of scrumptious yet, well-tailored portions of mains such as fish and chips. It comes with juice and an ice-cream, and kids get an activity sheet together with colour pencils to pass the time.

20. The Coastal Settlement
Cloistered at the far eastern end of Singapore at Changi Village area, The Coastal Settlement is a quaint and ancient-themed cafe that serves up authentic Western and Asian food with the ambience of lush foliage.
With the use of intriguing antiques such as an old Vespa scooter and a worn-down typewriter, I must say that my dining experience here is likened to a travel back in time.
Sure does make it an ideal place for inter-generational bonding as parents share stories of the past with their kids during their time of dining and bonding. Hence, I really suggest this place for a weekend getaway for the extended family even.
The Coastal Settlement serves up refreshing dishes as part of the kids’ menu. Special mention goes to the chicken chop and spaghetti ($15) – not the usual spaghetti bolognese for the kids’ menu at most restaurants. The chicken was tender and cut into bite-sized portions and the sauce was sweet and tomato-ey.

21. Food For Thought
With three outlets flourishing with popularity by patrons, Food For Thought is a cafe that channels its profits for a good cause and serves up fantastic dishes as well. Special mention goes to its Botanic Gardens branch.
Located at the entrance of Singapore’s most historical garden park, the restaurant is spacious with a high ceiling – very much a kid and family friendly dining place, as the noise made by the kids are in a way, minimised.
There is also a small playground just outside the restaurant. Whether you’re dining indoors or alfresco, you can have a close watch of the young ones being occupied with some outdoor fun with the elements of nature.

22. IKEA Restaurant
IKEA prides itself as a family-loving brand, and I’m sure families love it too. With two branches located at Alexandra and Tampines, each of these family-friendly wing of IKEA store is where both parents and their kids rejoice upon finding affordable Swedish dishes, special kids menu, high chairs and play areas all in one place.
Smaland – the name given to the supervised play area situated at the entrance of the store is where parents can drop their kiddos while they head in-store for their adult furniture-shopping duty. Living up to its name, the cafe serves up an array of remarkable and mouthwatering Western dishes such as spam fries, homemade buttermilk pancakes and spicy buffalo wings served with the in-house special sauce – just to name a few.
At the backend of the restaurant is a kids area that seems narrow and small, but you’ll be surprised that your young ones can be captivated for hours by the rack of toys, puzzles and a chalkboard which they can doodle on. A little-known fact about Quentin’s Eurasian Restaurant is that it is fantastically kid-friendly with excellent service as well as its indoor play area. With life-sized toy cars, slides and ball pools along with an extensive library of books, the kiddos can really go wild here while you catch up over a meal with your significant other.

Marche Movenpick Suntec City is an absolute winner for both parents and kids. Your child will get a firsthand experience of the bustling European market atmosphere. A form of ‘classroom learning’ in progress as they watch the chefs prepare ingredients live, at each market stall.
A fantastically kid-friendly restaurant, there is a nifty two-storey playhouse tucked at a corner of the marketplace eatery.
With features such as suspension bridge, low rock-climbing wall and stairway that connects the kiddos to the cub scout hideout on the second floor, it’s up to your child’s imagination of what he can do at this giant-sized playhouse.

If you’re looking for a dining place where both you and your kiddos can play with your food, to your hearts’ content, Slappy Cakes is your answer. This is a cool place where you and your young ones can have fun doodling, flipping and then eat your own pancake creations.

28. Treehouse Cafe
Treehouse Cafe is one of the few restaurants in Singapore that provides an indoor treehouse and play area that occupies the kiddos while parents sit down and watch their little ones as they dine.
There are LEGO blocks, small toys and books on the ground floor of the treehouse to entertain the kids while the upper floor has a large space with a small kitchen playset. I’d say the toys they have here are simple but engaging.
This family-friendly restaurant is fronted by General Manager Suhardi Huang – a trained chef with over 20 years of experience in all aspects of F&B who is also a father of two. He spearheads Treehouse Cafe in serving up quality European and Asian mains.
With a Children’s Menu ($15 per set) available in-house, all patrons – both parents and kids can select from an extensive variety of pastas, pizzas as well as main courses such as braised lamb shank ($26) and crackling pork knuckle ($40 for portion of 2).
