What the 2024 Nominees Wore to Their First Brit Awards: Dua Lipa in Alexander Wang, Lana Del Rey in Vivienne Westwood and More
The Brit Awards 2024, commonly referred to as the Brits, will premiere live on March 2 from The O2 arena in London and will feature a star-studded guest list of nominated musicians. From Dua Lipa in a black fringe-detailed dress from Alexander Wang‘s spring 2016 collection to Mahalia in an off-the-shoulder forest green gown from Lena Berisha with Jimmy Choo heels, several of the singers nominated this year for their achievements in music have previous experience walking the show’s iconic red carpet.
In preparation for the award show, WWD is reflecting back on what some of the 2024 nominees wore to their first appearance at the Brit Awards.

Taylor Swift, 2009
Taylor Swift, who was nominated this year for an International Artist of the Year award, first walked the Brits red carpet in 2009. Swift arrived wearing a silver sparkling minidress from KaufmanFranco’s fall 2007 ready-to-wear collection and styled her look with a Judith Leiber clutch and Christian Louboutin peep-toe heels.
Lana Del Rey, 2012
Lana Del Rey, who received a nomination this year for an International Artist of the Year award, made her first appearance at the Brits in 2012. The star walked the red carpet in a floor-length bright red gown from Vivienne Westwood that featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and train.
Charli XCX, 2015
Charli XCX, nominated this year for a Pop Act award, attended the Brits for the first time in 2015. To the show, the star wore a black and white gown from Vivienne Westwood’s spring 2015 collection and styled her look with a pair of black pointed-toe heels.
Dua Lipa, 2016
Dua Lipa, who was nominated this year for an Artist of the Year, Song of the Year with Mastercard award and Pop Act award, walked the Brits red carpet for the first time in 2016. Lipa was seen sporting a black dress with fringe detail from Alexander Wang’s spring 2016 collection and a pair of strappy black sandals.
RAYE, 2017
RAYE, who received a nomination this year for Artist of the Year, among others, first attended the Brits in 2017. The star walked the show’s red carpet in a ruched midi-length black dress adorned with long sleeves and an off-the-shoulder neckline.
Jorja Smith, 2018
Jorja Smith, nominated this year for an R&B Act award, attended her first Brits in 2018. To walk the red carpet, Smith wore a sheer floral print dress and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
Billie Eilish, 2020
Billie Eilish, who was nominated this year for an International Song of the Year award, walked the red carpet at her first Brits in 2020. For the show, the star arrived wearing a full look from Burberry, including an oversized trench coat, sweat set and visor-like hat.
Mahalia, 2020
Mahalia, who received a nomination this year for a Best New Artist in association with TRESemme award and R&B Act award, appeared at the Brits for the first time in 2020. The star arrived at the show wearing an off-the-shoulder forest green gown from Lena Berisha, a Cartier necklace and Jimmy Choo heels.
Dave, 2020
Dave, nominated for an Artist of the Year award, Song of Year with Mastercard award and Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act award, arrived at the Brits for the first time in 2020. The star walked the show’s red carpet in a dark blue suit from Ozwald Boateng.
Olivia Rodrigo, 2021
