11 new malls in Singapore that got a makeover in 2023 & 2024

Singapore is known for being a shopper’s paradise, but frequenting the same old malls in town can get rather boring. Several new malls have opened here over the past 2 years in heartland areas such as Sengkang and Pasir Ris. If you haven’t dropped by a new mall in Singapore of late, consider doing so over the coming weekend, for its refreshed offerings.

Here’s our list of the 11 new malls in Singapore that opened or got an upgrade recently.

1. Pasir Ris Mall – Jun 2024

Pasir Ris Mall, a new shopping centre along Pasir Ris Central, opened on 12 Jun 2024, with over 150 retail and F&B outlets across its 4 floors. New additions include Le Shrimp Ramen, Paradise Dynasty, Have Fun Family Karaoke, 4Fingers, BreadTalk and Elm Tree.

The new mall in Singapore has a whopping 3 food courts. Drop by the food court Malaysia Boleh in the basement. With its 1960s-themed facade, Malaysia Boleh transports diners to the bustling streets of Malaysia through its impeccable curation of Malaysian hawker food.

Designed to be the nexus of Pasir Ris, Pasir Ris Mall is accessible via Pasir Ris MRT Station and will be connected to the Cross Island Line and the upcoming Pasir Ris Bus Interchange.

The new Central Greenway that connects Pasir Ris Mall directly with Pasir Ris Park and Beach, provides a passage for residents to nature. To support eco-friendly commuting, Pasir Ris Mall has bicycle parking lots and shower facilities in its basement for cyclists.

2. Anchorvale Village – May 2024

Anchorvale Village, which is just a 2-minute walk away from Farmway Light Rail Transit (LRT) station, serves the surrounding residential Anchorvale town in the Sengkang estate.

The centre, spanning 4 floors, has a supermarket, restaurants and eateries, retail shops, tuition centres, and a hawker centre on the second floor, ensuring that all needs are met.

Noteworthy additions include A&W, Daiso, FairPrice supermarket and Mister Donut. Other new openings include Funland, Guardian, 24-hour gym GYMMBOXX and hairstylist Kcuts.

The new mall in Singapore also welcomed the Anchorvale Village Hawker Centre that opened in 2024. The hawker centre has a total of 650 seats and 36 stalls. They serve dishes such as Hokkien mee, chicken wings, nasi lemak, pancakes and chee cheong fun.

3. New Bahru – Sep 2024

New Bahru is a new mall and lifestyle destination in Singapore at the former Nan Chiau High School. The vast school hall, storied corridors and beautifully restored architecture house some of the city’s leading homegrown creative businesses. Around half of these brands have moved in; the rest will move in before the mall officially opens in Sep 2024.

Brands that have moved in include the plant design studio Soilboy, the leather crafting studio Crafune and the organic bedding outlet Sajao. New Bahru also has foodies covered with its exotic dishes. These are served, among others, by the Middle Eastern restaurant Artichoke and the Mexican eatery Huevos. There is also a Cold Storage supermarket there.

If you have a little one, be sure to check out the indoor playground Kiztopia at New Bahru. Complete with a sand pit, a ball pit and an inflatable giant slide, the first Kiztopia Prestige experience tailored for toddlers and preschoolers also holds 45-minute enrichment classes.

4. CQ@Clarke Quay – Apr 2024

Better known for its nightlife options, riverside lifestyle precinct Clarke Quay has gotten a new lease of life as a day-and-night venue after a S$62 million rejuvenation project.

Besides existing tenants such as the nightclub Zouk Singapore, CQ@Clarke Quay, which reopened on Apr 2024 after a 2-year rejuvenation exercise, now also has a FairPrice Finest with a Grocer Food Hall. Vendors here serve up dishes that pay homage to the area’s past.

As part of the refresh, CQ @ Clarke Quay is split into 3 zones, namely, The Riverfront (Blocks A and D), The Warehouses (Block B) and The Circuit (Blocks C and E). The 3 districts house around 60 dining, retail and lifestyle concepts. Of these, half are new to the area.

CQ now also has amenities including pet hydration bays, waste bins and pet parking zones. It also has 8 pet-friendly establishments, each with logos for identification. Among them is the riverfront bar Chupitos. Apart from an outdoor space for owners to dine with their pets, it serves pet-friendly cocktails made of ingredients such as pumpkin puree and bone broth.

5. Limbang Shopping Centre – Feb 2024

Limbang Shopping Centre, a Housing Board neighbourhood shopping mall between Yew Tee and Choa Chu Kang MRT stations, reopened its doors in Feb 2024 following 2 years of Upgrading work from Sep 2020 to Dec 2022. The mall now has a supermarket 50 per cent larger than before. The number of F&B tenants has also more than doubled from 6 to 15.

Residents are now sheltered from the rain and sun in the central area thanks to a glass ceiling. The mall also has large-bladed fans, air-conditioning and energy-efficient lights.

Improvements for seniors include wider escalators and seating areas in the plaza. The second floor also has a new sheltered playground for children. But long-time residents would be glad to know that the mall’s Peranakan mosaic sloped roofs and Peranakan shophouse-themed interiors, including louvred wooden windows, have been preserved.

6. Sengkang Grand Mall – Mar 2023

Catering to the town’s large demographic of young families, Sengkang Grand Mall is the first integrated development that comprises a 3-level retail component, a hawker centre, a childcare centre, a community club and residences in the northeast region of Singapore.

The mall is situated near Buangkok MRT Station and Buangkok Bus Interchange. The mall is a 5-minute drive away from Kallang Paya Lebar Expressway and Tampines Expressway.

7. The Woodleigh Mall – May 2023

Bidadari has always been a ghost town, but all is set to change with the opening of The Woodleigh Mall in May 2023. Situated along Upper Aljunied Road and connected to Woodleigh MRT, the 206,000-square-foot mall serves the Bidadari and Woodleigh estates.

The 3-storey mall boasts new retail concepts, holistic wellness offerings and enrichment centres. Some big-name additions are 24-hour FairPrice Finest, OLLA Specialty Coffee, a café that provides alfresco dining options, Genki Sushi, Boost Juice and BlueTree Education.

The new mall in Singapore is also connected to cycling routes around the Bidadari estate, as well as the upcoming 10-hectare Bidadari Park. Sustainability-wise, the mall is a recipient of the Building and Construction Authority’s Green Mark Platinum Award, the highest recognition in the framework for assessment of green design and best practices.

8. One Holland Village

Opened in Dec 2023, One Holland Village, a 3-minute walk from Holland Village MRT, is the first-of-its-kind, low-rise urban lifestyle hub in Singapore. Going hand-in-hand with the permeable nature of its terrain, shops integrate with open spaces for the public to gather.

Offering up-market dining, shopping and lifestyle options over 13,500 square metres of retail space, the 3-storey mall’s tenants include Guardian, Starbucks and Din Tai Fung.

The new mall in Singapore is also a pet-friendly mall. For example, it has numerous courtyards where pet owners and their fur pals can rest and roam freely. Other mall features that offer convenience to pet owners include pet water coolers and pet lifts.

9. Anchorpoint Shopping Centre – Nov 2023

Opened in 1997, AnchorPoint Shopping Centre completed its makeover in Nov 2023 and is operating independently under a new owner now. The new mall at Queenstown brings refreshed lifestyle offerings to the neighbourhood. These include both old and new tenants.

Existing retailers such as fashion retailer Cotton On and steakhouse Jack’s Place return. New additions include the coffee cafe Anagram Coffee and the Scandinavian-inspired cafe Overbrod. Now you won’t have to go to the IKEA opposite for its Swedish-style meatballs.

Designed with the vision for the mall to become the anchor point of the neighbourhood, its infrastructure incorporates nautical elements. There are arches resembling a boat’s hull and travertine stone flooring that mimics a wooden deck at the Main Lobby and the West Deck.

10. Tampines 1 – Aug 2024

If you have been to Tampines 1 of late and are wondering why some levels are cordoned off, it’s because the 15-year-old heartland mall is undergoing a S$38 million makeover.

The renovation works, which commenced in May 2023, will be completed in Aug 2024.

Besides giving the facade and common areas a new look, the common area at the Level 1 entrance will be converted into a retail space, making way for new F&B and fashion stores. They include household names such as Aburi-En, Kuriya Japanese Market and Love Bonito.

11. *SCAPE – End-2024

It’s been a long time since anyone visited the youth shopping mall *SCAPE and for good reason too. The mall has been undergoing renovation since Feb 2023. Parts of the mall, including the community dance spaces on Levels 4 and 5, are closed until end-2024.

The upgraded *SCAPE will have 3 zones. One zone will serve as a space for young aspiring entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, while in the second zone, young creatives can partake in artistic activities such as street art. The third district is for content creators to collaborate.

To make the shopping mall more inclusive for the physically disabled, the upgraded 5-storey building will have a new ramp that links the entranceway of Level 1 to Level 2.

Beyond infrastructure changes, visitors can also look forward to a new line-up of retail, entertainment and leisure experiences, as part of a plan to revitalise the Somerset Belt.
