So we did what we had to do— ventured out to the streets of KL and Selangor in an attempt to secure a similar tasting char kway to the great’s made by the hawkers in Penang. Here’s presenting the 10 best char kway teow spots in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to satisfy all your CKT cravings.
Located in Taman Paramount, you’ll be sure to be swept off your feet at Dancing King Char Kway Teow. And we don’t mean the tango.
This former Southeast Asia dancing champion turned char kway teow hawker will wow you with his Char Kway Teow (RM9), filled with glistening pork lard, chives, bean sprouts and juicy cockles. Don’t forget to add on the duck egg (RM1) for that touch of creaminess.

If you’re in Klang, don’t forget to swing by Melawis Fried Kuey Teow for a greasy plate of ‘black’ Char Kway Teow (RM10). Fun fact, the talented uncle behind this unassuming little stall has been frying up his famous noodles for more than 50 years.
Packed with wok hei, you’ll be able to enjoy the delicious smoky taste of the noodles. The kway teow is also filled with little golden nuggets of crunchy pork lard. If you’re feeling ravenous, top off your noodles with a fried egg for the ultimate meal.

3. Steven’s Fried Kuey Teow
Bangsar is home to plenty of cafes and restaurants. But in the midst of it all is Nam Chuan Coffee Shop, home to Steven’s Fried Kuey Teow.
A small plate of Char Kway Teow will cost you RM7 and an additional duck egg will cost RM8. Steven’s Fried Kuey Teow comes with all the CKT essentials: pork lard, bean sprouts, Chinese sausage and cockles.

4. Lau Wan Kuetiau Goreng
Is it possible for char kway teow to be halal and tasty? Before you argue, Lau Wan Kuetiau Goreng has been attracting customers of all races with his halal Char Kway Teow (RM8).
Lau Wan’s version is slightly different from your typical Penang style. The end product is a lot wetter, with prawns still in their shells, and a side of soya sauce with chillies. Other ingredients are your regular egg, cockles, bean sprouts, chives. Their tauhu bakar and kerang bakar are also must-try dishes.
5. Robert’s Char Kuey Teow
Founded by Robert in 1989, this stall in Petaling Jaya was his dream to bring authentic Penang Char Kway Teow to all.
Located in Seksyen 17, regulars would often call him the ‘dancing uncle’ as he would do a little jig when frying his plates of char kway teow. The Char Kway Teow (RM8 for small, RM9 for big) is a good mix of savoury, spiciness and sweetness with a rather distinct wok hei.

6. Jalan Batai Char Kuay Teow
The reason Jalan Batai Char Kuay Teow is named after Jalan Batai (Damansara Heights) is because that’s where they were originally stationed at. They operated for decades in Jalan Batai before moving to Jalan Gelugor in Klang.
You do get a choice to include a normal chicken egg or a duck egg in your plate of Char Kway Teow (RM9). The char kway teow has plenty of wok hei, with decent sized prawns and all the usual suspects like bean sprouts, cockles, and chives.

7. O & S Restaurant
Operating in Taman Paramount, O & S Restaurant churns out some of the best local fare and this includes Char Kway Teow (RM6.50). Many of the customers have vouched that this char kway teow is the best in the whole of Petaling Jaya.
Packed with wok hei, don’t forget to order your kway teow with duck egg for an extra dose of flavour.

8. Char Kuey Teow Aunty Gemok
Known affectionately as ‘Aunty Gemok’, this lady has been dishing up plates of delicious halal Penang style Char Kway Teow (RM6.50) to countless loyal customers for decades. Using halal ingredients to prepare the dish, her stall attracts people from various races and the aunty was said to have been in the fried kuey teow business for more than 20 years!
Sadly, she passed away in 2018 but her char kway teow legacy continues to live on. You can still head to her stall at Restoran Jamal Mohamed in SS5 for a plate of absolute goodness.

9. Kedai Kopi Lai Foong
Operating since 1956, Lai Foong is perhaps best known for their beef noodles. But don’t miss out on their equally delicious Char Kway Teow (RM8).
Cooked by an elderly uncle, the char kuey teow here is a mixture of flat and yellow noodles stir-fried with egg, cockles, fish cakes, Chinese sausages, pork lard, prawns and taugeh.

10. Frankie Char Kuay Teow
The last spot on our list is Frankie Char Kuay Teow. Located in Restoran 8888 in Damansara Perdana, Frankie cooks up a mean Char Kway Teow (RM7) with all of the quintessential ingredients— lap cheong, prawn, cockles, bean sprouts, spring onion and eggs.
Fun fact, Frankie is the nephew of the man behind the famous Ah Leng Char Kway Teow stall in Penang. If you fancy your noodles to be more spicy, just inform Frankie and he’ll up the heat in your noodles. It’s best to drop by during non-peak hours, as queues get pretty long here.
