10 places with super shiok curry mee in KL & PJ that’ll blow your mind
Did you know that KL’s hawker curry mee has claimed the second spot in the world’s top 500 food experiences in travel authority Lonely Planet’s Ultimate Eatlist?
It’s no surprise why— made up of a heady mix of spices and flavours (such as fresh turmeric, galangal, chilli, candlenut, coconut milk and shrimp paste), the broth is simply to die for. Plus soaking in the rich gravy are a motley of toppings: fresh plump blood cockles, tofu puffs soaking in the gravy, chunks of tender chicken or crispy roast pork and long beans.
We’ve scoured the streets of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor to bring you the 10 most slurp-worthy curry mee… so it’s time to dig in!
1. Batu 9 Curry Mee 9
It is a rather long drive to Batu 9 Curry Mee 9, but I personally believe it’s one worth taking. The curry mee broth here is made using homemade spice paste which is prepared in a large batch every two to three days.
A bowl of curry mee will cost you RM8 but it’s definitely worth the price. You get to enjoy the juiciest cockles, spicy and flavourful broth, beancurd skin, long beans, huge pieces of chicken, potatoes and tau pok. I enjoyed the curry noodles so much that I downed the entire bowl. And this is why it has clinched the #1 spot on our list.

2. Girl and Mommy Curry Mee
Run by 60-something-year-old ‘Mommy’ Madam Loi Yim Peng, and her daughter, Girl and Mommy Curry Mee have been operating for almost 20 years. Their curry mee have gained a loyal following from their original location in Chan Sow Lin Food Court.
Those of you who can’t handle the heat will enjoy Madam Loi’s Roast Pork Curry Noodle (RM10) as the broth is creamy and not spicy. Along with the yellow wheat noodles are roast pork belly, spongey slivers of rehydrated dried pig skin, fresh blood cockles and tofu puffs.

3. Coca Seafood Restaurant
Coca Seafood Restaurant had gone viral back in 2018 for its massive bowl of Curry Noodles (RM25). We’re not kidding when we say it’s massive— generous amounts of yellow noodles and mee hoon bathed in thick flavourful curry broth, filled to the brim with toppings.
The toppings make up a tiny mountain of char siew, roast pork, cockles, long beans, pork lard, fish balls, fried wonton, and fried bean curd sheets. Unless you have a really large appetite, it’s best to take along at least two friends to help you polish this bowl of curry noodles.

4. Restoran 168 Wantan Mee & Curry Mee
Located along Jalan Brunei Utara Pudu KL, Restoran 168 Wantan Mee & Curry Mee has been going strong for 20 years. You can find other items such as wan tan mee, clear soup noodles and rice, but the Signature Curry Mee (RM8.50) is their specialty.
You can opt for an additional serving of char siew or fried dumplings for your curry mee but I’d personally recommend the char siew. The curry mee also comes with a generous amount of tofu puffs, cockles, pig skin, long beans, bean sprouts and Thai basil leaves. The basil leaves help to enhance the flavour of the already fragrant broth. A definite must-try if you’re in the vicinity.

5. Ah Yee Curry Noodle
Ask anyone who grew up in Kepong about their favourite dish, and they’d probably tell you of their fond memories slurping down bowls of steaming hot curry noodles at Ah Yee Curry Noodle.
Using a secret recipe for over 20 years, the Curry Mee (RM6.50) gravy is creamy and fragrant with a hint of coconut aroma. Don’t forget to include some of her homemade yong tau fu into your curry gravy— it’s lip-smackingly good once it soaks some of the delicious curry. It’ll keep you going back for more!

6. OUG Back-lane Curry Mee
If you’re well-versed with Malaysian food, you would know that some of the best stalls are located in rather gritty, dodgy locations. So if you don’t mind sitting on a wonky plastic stool at a rickety foldable table in a wet, grimy back-lane, head over to OUG Back-lane Curry Mee. This experience will be enhanced by the amazing curry mee they serve you.
The Curry Noodle (RM6.50) here is straight-forward with noodles soaked in a broth of poached chicken meat, roasted pork, Teochew fish-balls and tofu puffs. Don’t enjoy cockles in your curry noodles? You’ll be pleasantly surprised as the owner does not include cockles in his curry mee.

7. Kedai Kopi Ming Sing
The moment you step foot into Kedai Kopi Ming Sing, there is an unmistakable aroma of curry wafting in the air. It’s impossible to leave this coffee shop without trying the curry mee which locals dub one of the best in Malaysia.
Love cockles in your curry mee? The freshly shucked cockles in the bright orange coloured curry broth provide a good juicy bite. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself drinking the gravy… it’s that addictive!

8. Restaurant Kum Chuan
One of the most sought-after curry mee spots in town, dining at Restaurant Kum Chuan often involves a waiting time of up to 30 minutes and the risk of it running out by noon. There are plenty of hawker stalls but the unassuming curry mee stall here is a local favourite.
A bowl of Curry Mee (RM5.80) comes with a variety of toppings including char siew, cockles, tofu puffs, long beans and bean sprouts. You get four options (yellow mee, vermicelli, kway teow, and wan tan noodles) for your curry mee. I’d say the yellow mee is the safest option, but do try the version with the kway teow— the broad flat noodles soak up the curry so well!

9. Madras Lane Curry Mee
Tucked within the bustling hawker street of Madras Lane, there’s a stall known for its flavourful Curry Laksa (RM9). This hawker stall has been serving delicious curry laksa for over 50 years.
Here you can get a hot bowl filled with assorted ingredients like cockles, long beans, tofu puffs, and brinjals, all drenched in a thick curry broth. The noodles go well with a spoonful of aromatic sambal paste! Fun fact, Madras Lane curry laksa in Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur ranked number 2 on Lonely Planet’s Eatlist of 2018.

10. Limapulo: Baba Can Cook
Located at The Row, Chow Kit, Limapulo: Baba Can Cook is my go-to place for a flavourful bowl of curry laksa. Known for their Peranakan delights, their best seller is without a doubt their Nyonya Laksa (RM11.90), where the delectable tell-tale broth of laksa is infused with freshly grated coconut milk.
In fact, the curry laksa is so tasty that it was awarded the Best Curry Laksa in the Klang Valley in The Star People’s Food Awards. If you happen to swing by for a taste of their curry laksa, don’t forget to try the Pai Tee. It’s so good and crunchy! I’m salivating just at the thought of it.
