10 must-try food spots in Labrador Park after a long day of exploring
Ah, Labrador Park, the part of Singapore that is an enclave for art and nature. Labrador Park is the perfect spot in the South to visit when you’re looking to enjoy a walk around its titular nature reserve, or to admire artistic and cultural exhibitions at Gillman Barracks.
Aside from the enticing activities adorning Labrador Park, this area is also a food haven as it is filled with incredible restaurants and eateries. After a long day out, what better way is there to end the day than to enjoy the food offerings there?
Here are 10 must-try food spots in Labrador Park after a long day of exploring.
1. Naked Finn
Naked Finn is one of Singapore’s best seafood restaurants. The establishment was founded by Chef Ken Loon in 2012 and primarily focuses on seafood, ranging from oysters to crabs and various fish.
The restaurant, which is located at Gillman Barracks in Labrador Park, offers tantalising starters like Pacific Cupped Oyster (S$8), a single oyster served chilled with fermented red chilli, guava mignonette, Thai basil oil and fried shallots.
Enjoy their Wild-caught Gloomy Octopus (S$42 for 150g), which is sous-vide in kombu, Wild-caught ‘Baby’ Indian Squid (S$16) or Wild-caught ‘Saba‘ Blue Mackerel (S$70 for 160g).
Gather your seafood-loving friends to share big dishes like the Wild-caught Mozambique Lobster (S$108)— this dish is served with 4 pieces of lightly grilled lobster with botan ebi garum, pickled shallot, preserved lemon and prawn butter.

2. Hopscotch [Temporarily Closed]
Every time I visit Hopscotch, I almost feel like I’ve been transported to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, with its rustic and charming interior design. Hopscotch’s Western menu offers something for everyone, and even has unique fusion dishes.
Have you ever tried fusion pizza flavours like Cereal Chicken Pizza (S$22), Roast Duck Pizza (S$24) or Chilli Crab Pizza (S$26)? Hopscotch brings these interesting Italian-Asian creations to life. They even have Salted Egg Chicken Linguine (S$18) and Truffle Furikake Linguine (S$22)!
If you prefer something a little bit more classic Western, the Signature Wagyu Burger (S$24) is a staple filled with caramelised five spice tomato onion relish, mixed mushroom ragout, baby gem lettuce and cheddar cheese. Be sure to check out other signatures like the Plum Chicken Roulade (S$22) and Guinness Beef Bourguignon (S$26).

3. Handlebar
Bikers, here’s the perfect place for you to refuel mid-ride: Handlebar is Singapore’s first bike-themed eatery and bar that is, of course, motorbike-friendly. They even have frequent live music performances!
You’ll likely spot Handlebar when you look out for rows of parked motorbikes outside its hardcore space.
Take a shot at their Cocaine Wings (S$14), which come in 3 levels of spice: Low, Medium or High (don’t worry, they don’t actually contain cocaine). Have a feast with the Mixed Grilled Platter (S$108), served with ribeye, jumbo prawns, pork ribs and pork sausages, or live the ultimate biker life with the Jumbo Dog (S$12), available in Beef, Chicken or Pork.
I’m especially interested in the creatively-named Silence of the Lamb (S$36), a rack of lamb served with mashed potato and salad. Yum!

Choose from over 100 Thai and Burmese dishes and enjoy their selection of alcohols from over 11 countries.

5. Himawari Japanese Restaurant
Tucked away within Alexandra Road is Himawari Japanese Restaurant which serves authentic Japanese fare. This restaurant isn’t your typical neighbourhood Japanese restaurant — each dish is made with high quality ingredients for the ultimate Japanese experience.
Sashimi lovers can opt for Himawari’s Special (S$45), a platter with four kinds of sashimi: Maguro, Mekaijiki, Hamachi and Salmon. Alternatively, a single serving of an individual kind of sashimi comes with 5 pieces and ranges from S$13 to S$21 per plate.
Amid Japanese classics like donburi bowls and bento boxes, I decided to try the Iberico Pork Cheek (S$20), which blew me away with its sublime flavours. The iberico pork slices were ultra-tender and melted in my mouth. While it was a little on the pricier side, it was unlike anything I had ever tasted.
For a premium meat experience, I’d love to try their Wagyu A5 Karubi (S$35) in the future!

8. OPIO Kitchen & Bar
Here’s another exciting spot to check out while in Labrador Park: OPIO Kitchen & Bar, formerly known as Blue Lotus Kitchen + Bar, introduces exotic Asian flavours into classic Western dishes.
Some of their innovative fusion dishes are the Crispy Sambal Ikan Bilis Coca Bread Pizza (S$26) and Szechuan “Ma La” King Prawns Spaghetti (S$28). I’m especially interested in the Hot Stone Pork Lard Foie Gras & Chinese Sausages Truffle Flavoured Fried Rice (S$34), which combines French and Chinese cuisines into one.
From 5pm onwards, OPIO’s signature dishes will be available. Think of dishes like Flambe Hickory Smoked Kurobuta Pork Ribs (S$44) and 48 Hours Slow-Cooked Australian Angus Beef Long Ribs, Original Jus (1kg Bone-in) (S$54)— it’s clear that these dishes are of high quality.

10. Qin Ji Rougamo
Located right at the entrance of Alexandra Retail Centre in Labrador Park is Qin Ji Rougamo, which brings dishes from China straight to us here in Singapore. Their titular rougamo are their most popular food item— each crispy prata-like pastry is filled with savoury ingredients, like Chicken (S$5.80), Cumin Pork (S$5.80) and Black Pepper Beef (S$5.90).
Go for a classic bowl of noodles like the Braised Beef Rice Noodle (S$9.80), Pickled Cabbage Fish with Rice Noodle (S$9.80) and Sour & Spicy Sweet Potato Noodle with Minced Pork (S$8.80). While the noodles can’t compare to a bowl you’d get at a hawker centre or authentic restaurant, the fast food-like nature of Qin Ji Rougamou grants you these dishes quickly and conveniently.
Don’t forget to get your bubble tea fix! I loved the Grass Jelly Milk Tea (S$3.50), which was incredibly fragrant and not too sweet.
