With the rising cost of living no thanks to inflation, many people are cutting back in many areas of their lives, including their holiday travels. But which city can people get more for less if they are looking at a budget holiday?
A research from CIA Landlords Insurance has looked into the average cost of groceries and rental accommodations in the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)—an intergovernmental organisation with 38 member countries, founded in 1961 to stimulate economic progress and world trade—capital cities to reveal the true cost of a self-catered holiday.
Below are the 10 cheapest cities to consider for your next budget holiday and some activities and deals you can enjoy. The results are based on the cost of groceries in each city. The one-week average rental price has been included for reference and comparison.
The ones that stood out are Madrid, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal. Although they have relatively low grocery costs (about S$30), their one-week average rental prices are more than S$1,100. The accommodation cost may very well eat into the budget you have for travelling, which most likely cannot be offset by the savings you’d get from groceries.
On the other hand, Bogota, Colombia is the cheapest for both the costs of groceries and accommodation. This makes it one of the ultimate choice destinations for a budget holiday.
