10 best makan places in The Exchange, TRX
Since the opening of The Exchange, TRX in Nov 2023, the mall has been steadily rising to become one of the most beloved malls in KL. Other than its lavish design with over 400 retailers and stores, the fact that the mall is directly connected to the Tun Razak Exchange MRT Station with a mere 1-minute walking distance is also the main contributor to why this mall is always packed even during weekdays.
While this place leans towards being an “atas” variety, there are also affordable options available if you’re on a budget. Though, with an extensive selection of high quality food spots, I’d say that it’s totally worth it if you wanna splurge once in a while for a nice meal (paired with cosy ambience and top notch service!). With that, I present to you: 10 best makan places in The Exchange, TRX. Enjoy!
1. Meriah by Serai Group (L1.03)
If you’re familiar with Serai Group, you will be able to guess right away what type of cuisine that their newest addition — Meriah — specialises in. Think local classics fused with famous Indonesian dishes, with a mix of fine dining. To put it simply, it’s the “atas” version of relatively Malay signatures, but with quality that’s worth the price.
With a stellar rating of 4.7 stars from 799 Google reviews (at the time of writing), Meriah is famed for their delicious food, paired with cosy ambience and impeccable service. To experience the best of what they offer, start with their signature Meriah Platter (RM45). It’s a feast of fragrant pandan ginger rice, ayam goreng berempah, short ribs rendang, potato chips berlado, and pickled cucumber.
Other must-tries include the Nasi Bebek (RM45), featuring spiced fried duck, gulai telur itik, sambal, and ulam — a beloved specialty from Indonesia’s Madura Island — and the Fried Garoupa (market price), perfect for seafood lovers. Don’t leave without sampling their desserts, especially the crispy Banana Fritters (RM18) and the refreshing Chilled Mango Sago (RM20).

2. Oriental Kopi (C.45 & C.46)
I know, I know, you might be thinking — Oriental Kopi, again? But hear me out. Like any popular chain — think Nando’s or KFC — you’ve probably noticed that some outlets just do it better. When it comes to Oriental Kopi, the branch at The Exchange TRX stands out as one of the top picks in my book.
If you’re somehow not familiar with this famous restaurant, it’s a modern spin on our very own kopitiam, serving timeless kopitiam classics. Their must-try is none other than the Oriental Signature Nasi Lemak (RM18.97). Every plate is served with a ¼ piece of succulent ayam goreng berempah and sunny-side-up egg, fragrant coconut rice, sambal, ikan bilis, peanuts, and cucumber slices.
If you’re craving a different choice of carb, Oriental Curry Laksa Mee (RM16.85) is a great choice. Finish your meal with a sweet treat, featuring their famous Oriental Egg Tart. Oriental Kopi (RM10.49) — the drink, not the whole kopitiam, is also a must-have. I’ll often swing by just to tapau a cup. It might be too sweet for some, but it’s definitely a perfect once-in-a-while indulgence.

3. Samtai YAMCH’A (C.13)
If you’re on the hunt for a cosy spot serving local favourites reminiscent of kopitiam classics, look no further than Samtai YAMCH’A. Their outlet at The Exchange TRX, in my opinion, ranks among their best.
While Samtai YAMCH’A is known for its dim sum, I’ll admit their take on it doesn’t quite hit the mark. But here’s the twist — their other dishes? Absolutely phenomenal. Crowd favourites include Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken, served with a whole chicken leg, Fried Rice with Salted Chicken Chop, and their delectable Mee Tarik options.
If you’re just in for a quick bite, don’t miss the Fried Radish Cake. Fluffy, perfectly seasoned, and utterly satisfying, it’s a delight for the taste buds. Pair your meal with a glass of Kopi Ice — rich, robust, and as kaw as it gets (trust me, it’s coffee-lover approved!).

Established in 2004 in Petitenget, Bali, Warung Eropa brings the vibrant flavours of Indonesia to Kuala Lumpur, blending traditional Indonesian cuisine with a Western twist. True to its motto, “Bringing Bali to Kuala Lumpur,” the star of the menu is their iconic Bali crispy duck, a dish that keeps diners coming back for more.
From starters to desserts, the dishes at Warung Eropa offer a unique culinary experience rarely found in KL — unless, of course, you’ve already had a taste of Bali. The result? Perfectly grilled, juicy bites that capture the essence of Japanese culinary craftsmanship.
At Robataya Izakaya, fresh seafood such as Golden Sea Bream, Japanese Horse Mackerel, and Live Ark Shell are airflown daily from Tsukiji. 8. Chica Bonita Elegante (L2.51)
Whether you’re already a fan of Mexican culture or diving into it for the first time, Chica Bonita is guaranteed to wow you. Inspired by the vibrant energy of authentic Mexican celebrations like Día de los Muertos and Cinco de Mayo, this spot nails the festive vibe with flair.
Step inside, and you’re greeted by an explosion of colour and culture. The decor is a feast for the eyes, featuring traditional Mexican motifs like moons, indigenous symbols, and animals. The intricately painted skulls are a standout, turning the concept of death into a bold celebration of life — perfectly capturing Mexico’s rich and timeless heritage.
But let’s get to the real star of the show: the food! Chica Bonita’s menu is a flavour-packed adventure you don’t want to miss. The Burritos Chingones (from RM23) are a must-try — a hefty 12-inch flour tortilla loaded with your choice of filling (Chicken, Beef, Shrimp, Mushroom, or Pumpkin), plus cheese, rice, frijoles, lettuce, and salsa roja for that extra kick.
Other showstoppers include the Enchiladas ta Loca (from RM30), featuring 3 corn tortillas smothered in salsa, cheese, and pico de gallo, and the sizzling Fajitas (from RM46), a vibrant mix of onions, bell peppers, and your chosen protein, served with guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, cheese, pickled jalapenos, and warm tortillas.

9. Hot Bird (GS.07)
After making waves with 2 locations in Damansara Uptown and Subang Jaya SS15, Hot Bird, Malaysia’s first-ever Nashville hot chicken spot, has officially landed in The Exchange, TRX!
As the name suggests, this place specialises in Nashville hot chicken — think juicy, spicy chicken pieces marinated in buttermilk and a mix of spices (paprika and cayenne give it that signature heat), then coated in flour and fried to crispy perfection. The real kicker? The chicken is drenched in flavourful hot oil for an extra punch of spice.
Hot Bird keeps it simple with a solid menu: Fried Chicken (RM24.90 for 2-pc meal), Chicken Tenders (RM25.90 for 3-pc meal), and Hot Bird Burger (RM23.90 for Burger Meal). Each meal comes with a drink, coleslaw, and fries. Feeling extra? Upgrade to a Milkshake for just RM8 or add Mac & Cheese for RM4.

Ever wondered what happens when Japanese and Chinese cuisines collide? Le Shrimp Noodle Bar is the place to find out. Known for its deliciously unique noodle bowls, it combines the rich umami of Japanese broth with the smooth, chewy texture of Chinese la mian.
Their Le Signature Trio Shrimp Ramen (RM37.90) is a must-try — a warm, flavourful bowl of shrimp broth paired with handmade noodles, ebiko shrimp paste, prawn dumplings, and fresh prawns. If you prefer dry noodles, try the Ebiko Prawn Ball Tossed Ramen (RM29.90), or switch things up with the Garlic Honey Soy Crispy White Tuna Garlic Rice Bowl (RM25.90) for a satisfying carb alternative.
