Zheng Shuang lost custody case against former partner
15 May – Zheng Shuang has recently lost in her custody case against former partner Zhang Heng, who will now officially be the guardian of their two children.
As reported on Mingpao, the news was confirmed by Zhang on Weibo, stating that he has been granted solo custody of their two children, with Zheng to get only visitation rights.
However, he expressed belief that the actress will fulfil her responsibilities and obligations as a mother in the future so that the children "would grow up without regret."
In the same post, Zhang admitted that he was not a good father who failed to give his children maternal love and a complete family.
"Dad has done a lot of wrongs. I can only apologise and admit to my wrongdoings. If one day when you grow up and see this apology, I will say to you again, "I am sorry. Please accept my apology"," he wrote.
He also admitted to not being a good countryman - for going to the United States to have the surrogacies knowing that it was illegal in China.
"I have a lot of social responsibilities that I cannot evade and am willing to face. So I solemnly promise here, I am willing to accept any punishment from the state and the law and I am willing to accept all criticisms from everybody," he wrote.
Zheng Shuang filed a custody case in the District Court of Denver, Colorado, against Zhang Heng earlier this year following the backlash against her. This was after her said former partner decided to expose the secret births of their two children, Lucas, born in December 2019, and Luna, born in January 2020 - both through surrogacy, and revealed that Zheng had abandoned him and the children.
The scandal had cost Zheng multiple endorsements and acting projects, as well as leading to her being investigated for potential tax evasion.
