Zhang Ziyi is going to be in the next "Godzilla" movie

The award-winning actress will play a prominent role in "Godzilla: King of the Monsters"

9 Jun – Award-winning Chinese actress, Zhang Ziyi is joining the Legendary/Warner Bros. Monsterverse.

According to Variety, not only will she play a role in 2019's "Godzilla: King of the Monsters", she has also signed on to reprise her role in the cinematic universe's finale "Godzilla vs. Kong".

Ziyi is said to play a prominent character from the secret Monarch organisation established in the Monsterverse.

While the plot details are being kept under wraps, the events in "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is said to take place several years after that of 2014's "Godzilla".

Michael Doughtery and Zach Shield of "Krampus" are penning the script together, with Doughtery also directing the movie.

Other actors already signed on to be in the movie are Millie Bobby Brown, Charles Dance, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds and Anthony Ramos, with Sally Hawkins and Ken Watanabe returning to reprise their roles from "Godzilla".

The movie is slated to be released on 22 March 2019 in the U.S. while "Godzilla vs. Kong" will be released the following year on 22 May 2020.

Ziyi will next appear in "God Particle", also known as "Cloverfield Movie", which will be released at the end of the year.
