Zhang Ziyi congratulates Tony Leung for Golden Lion honour

5 Sep – Zhang Ziyi was among the many stars who recently congratulated Tony Leung Chiu Wai for his Lifetime Achievement award.

On 3 September, the Chinese star took to Weibo and reposted a news article on Tony getting the Golden Lion Lifetime accolade at the Venice Film Festival and wrote, "Congratulations, Mr. Leung. It was well-deserved. Director Ang Lee's award speech was also touching. It was true, kind and beautiful."

"I wish them both a great success," she added.

Zhang and Tony previously worked together in the Wong Kar Wai movie, "The Grandmaster", which was released in 2013.

In his speech prior to awarding Tony with the accolade, filmmaker Ang Lee, who directed Tony on "Lust, Caution", hailed him as an inspiration for others and that the actor would stay on set to watch others work during his break time to see where he could help.

"We always think that directors help actors, but sometimes it's the other way around," Ang Lee said. "It's both terrifying and meaningful when someone that good and genuine embodies a hidden part of you. His willingness to constantly share that vulnerability is what makes him so great."
