Zanilia Zhao joins "The Monkey King 3"
8 Dec - After searching all over China, Cheang Pou Soi and the team of "The Monkey King 3" finally chose actress Zanilia Zhao to play the coveted role of the leader of the Kingdom of Women.
As reported on Singtao, the director recently shared the news at the press conference of the upcoming film, "The Monkey King 3: The Land of Beauty" (previously reported as "The Kingdom of Women"), saying that Zanilia will be taking the role of a lead actress from Gong Li, who previously played the White Bone Demon in "The Monkey King 2".
Cheang stated that the reason for casting Zanilia is because the actress possesses all the quality needed to play the role – lively, but calm and mature.
The director also crowned her with a diamond tiara as part of the "initiation".
In the original story, the Ruler of the Kingdom of Women falls in love with Tang Sanzang and wants to marry him. The character was previously played by mainland actress Zhu Lin in the CCTV version of "Journey to the West" (1986), and by Rainbow Wang in the Zhejiang TV's version of the story back in 2010.
