‘Z: The Beginning Of Everything’ Renewed For Season 2 By Amazon

UPDATED with quotes: Amazon has renewed Z: The Beginning of Everything for a second season.

“We’re truly thrilled,” said star and executive producer Christina Ricci tonight at Deadline’s AwardsLine panel on the show at the Hollywood Athletic Club, just hours after the renewal was confirmed. “It’s such a rich history and their story is so fascinating. It should be a pretty exciting second season.”

As for what’s coming up in Season 2, Ricci said they’d just gotten news of the pickup and hadn’t had a meeting yet about the new season, but added, “Certainly, we’re going to get more into the complexities of their marriage, and what led to her (Zelda’s) breakdown.”

Created by Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin, the bio-series is based on the life of Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald (Ricci), the brilliant, beautiful and talented Southern Belle who becomes the original flapper and icon of the wild, flamboyant Jazz Age in the 20s.

The series begins before she meets the unpublished writer F. Scott Fitzgerald (David Hoflin) and moves through their passionate, turbulent love affair and their marriage—made in heaven, lived out in hell as the celebrity couple of their time. The series travels through the wild parties, the wicked jazz, the dissolute artists of the era, as well as the alcoholism, adultery and struggle with dashed dreams and mental illness that characterizes their later years. David Strathairn co-stars.

Prestwich and Yorkin also exec produce along with Pamela Koffler, Christine Vachon and Ricci.
