Yoo Ah-in sentenced to one year in prison

5 Sep - South Korean actor Yoo Ah-in has been sentenced to one-year in prison following his drug charges.

The 38-year-old actor, who was indicted last October, received the sentence on 3 September, with the court ordering him to also pay KRW 2 million in fine.

It is noted that the prosecution previously sought a four-year prison sentence for Yoo.

He was charged after violating Korea's Narcotics Control Act by using drugs illegally and destroying evidence.

Yoo, real name Um Hong-sik, was indicted earlier on charges of habitually abusing the prescription drug propofol under the guise of cosmetic procedures from September 2020 to March 2022.

The charges also include illegally buying over 1,100 sleeping pills under the name of a different person on 44 occasions from May 2021 to August 2023.

Yoo has previously expressed remorse for his actions, saying that he will try his best to live a much healthier life and contribute to society no matter the ruling.
