YG Entertainment denies BLACKPINK's Lisa definite departure

13 Jul – YG Entertainment recently dismissed the idea that BLACKPINK's Lisa could very well be leaving the company after August.

Earlier, some insiders sparked such speculation after an agency shared that YG has expressed difficulty to arrange scheduled activities with Lisa after August due to the uncertainty of the situation.

A spokesperson of the company had since responded to the rumour, saying that the uncertainty was due to BLACKPINK's tour schedule, as well as the Thai rapper's individual activities.

"It has nothing to do with the contract renewal. That is currently under discussion," the company added.

It is expected that the direction of BLACKPINK's future activities will be decided after the official announcement of whether or not they will renew their contract. Whether or not Lisa will continue to work as a member of BLACKPINK will inevitably have a great impact on the direction of the group in the future.

It is noted that there is such a thing as the "7-Year Curse" in K-pop, in which a group would disband after seven years. This is mainly due to the fact that the maximum contract period of an idol or an idol group is seven years.

Among the groups that have gone their separate ways include YG's own female group and BLACKPINK's predecessor, 2NE1.
