Yes, Astrology Can Explain Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s Divorce

From Cosmopolitan

While 2021 has already been a v long year, there’s one celeb news story's kinda breaking the internet. We’re talking, of course, about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s divorce. After literal months of rumors, on February 19, TMZ, Page Six, and E! News reported that Kim has officially filed for divorce.

Between Kanye West’s brief, controversial 2020 presidential campaign and Keeping Up With the Kardashians announcing its final season, the couple that was once deemed Calabasas royalty (source unavailable) has encountered some major shifts over the past 12 months. Because, you know, the stars are just like us! (Except for the whole private island thing, that is.)

So what do ~the stars~ (the other kind) have to say about the Kim Kardashian and Kanye West dissolution? Let’s check in with astrology!

Saturn’s Seven-Year Itch

On May 24, 2014, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian married in a modest 200-person wedding in Florence, Italy. No need to touch that calculator: This year, Kanye and Kim would be celebrating their seven-year anniversary.

You may have heard of the “seven-year itch” (made popular by Marilyn Monroe’s iconic 1952 film of the same name)—the idea that after seven years, a marriage or romantic partnership begins to lose its luster. From an astrological POV, however, the seven-year itch corresponds with Saturn’s cycle.

Saturn, the planet of lessons, restrictions, and—yes—commitments, has a 29.5-year orbit (sound familiar? That’s when you complete your first Saturn Return). Every seven years, it completes a quarter of its journey, marking an important time for review and negotiation. It’s normal to find ourselves backing out of binding contracts at this time, especially those involving romance.

On Kim and Kanye’s wedding day, Saturn was located at 19º Scorpio. Scorpio (along with Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius) is one of the fixed signs of the zodiac, and it symbolizes deep intimacy. On December 17, less than a week before Kim showed off a wedding-ring-less finger on Instagram, Saturn drifted into Aquarius, preparing to form a “square” (a 90º angle, associated with tension in astrology) to the position of Saturn in Kimye’s wedding chart. TL;DR: This narrative will probs continue to build as Saturn inches forward.

However, Saturn will not create an exact square with Kimye’s wedding chart until February 2022, so I would not be surprised if it takes another year for the divorce to be finalized. And that totally checks out, because sorting out $70 million of homes, art, jewelry, and (allegedly) livestock can’t happen overnight. Totally relatable!

The Gemini-Sagittarius Eclipses

Born on June 8, 1977, Kanye West is a notorious Gemini, the air sign associated with communication, spontaneity, and duality. What’s more, although we don’t have his time of birth, we know that his Moon sign—the celestial body that symbolizes emotions and inner truth—is Pisces, the water sign connected with profound sensitivity. Gemini and Pisces are both mutable signs, which means they’re inextricably linked. In other words, when one of these signs is activated by a planet’s motion in the sky, so is the other.

Kim Kardashian is a Libra, born October 21, 1980. But her Rising Sign (the zodiac sign emerging on the eastern horizon at her exact time of birth) is in Sagittarius, the fire sign connected to philosophy, education, and travel. (Side note: The combination of her Libra Sun—symbolized by the scales of justice—and Sagittarius Rising is pure lawyer energy!) Kim’s Sagittarius Rising plays a pivotal role in her relationship with Kanye, because Sagittarius is Gemini’s opposite sign and, you guessed it, it’s also mutable.

But wait! There’s more! Just like Kanye, Kim was also born under the psychic Pisces Moon, which not only indicates a powerful synchronicity between their emotional states (for better and for worse) but also means that Kim’s inner world is linked up to all this mutable action.

So, the divorce: Beginning last summer, the solar and lunar eclipses began activating the Gemini-Sagittarius axis. Eclipses are powerful lunations that catalyze long-lasting, permanent change relating to destiny (you know, NBD). On June 5, November 30, and December 14, 2020, the solar and lunar eclipses electrified the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. (And yes, in case you were curious, Kim’s Venus—the planet of love and values—just so happens to be in Virgo, while her Mars—the planet of action—is in Sagittarius.)

With Kimye’s collective Sun, Rising, Moon, Venus, and Mars electrified by these Gemini-Sagittarius eclipses, these major lunations are generating shock waves across every aspect of their lives, both separately and together. Eclipses in this series will continue throughout 2021, with the next lunar eclipse on May 26, 2021, and the next solar eclipse on December 4, 2021. This pattern shows us that the lowly public hears about Kimye drama approximately one month after the eclipse (Kanye’s July Twitter drama unfolded a few weeks after the first eclipse in this series, while news about the reported divorce began circulating a few weeks after the December 14, 2020, solar eclipse.) I would expect to receive major updates about the Kim and Kanye breakup in June 2021 and January 2022.

So, what now?

Although those wily Kardashian-Jenners certainly know how to generate buzz, the timing of this news makes astrological sense. Looking at Kim’s and Kanye’s charts, it's clear that this relationship, which also just happens to be on the verge of experiencing its first Saturn square, is experiencing some heavy renegotiation. While Kimye may have broken up for good, we'll always have the "Bound 2" music video. Ah, the good ol’ days!
