Yang Hyun-suk indicted for cover-up

8 Jun – YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk has been indicted with attempting to cover up the use of drugs by one of his artistes.

As reported on Chosun Ilbo, the news was announced by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office on 7 June, stating that Yang has violated the Additional Punishment Act for Specific Crimes, when he decided to coax and threaten a trainee in 2016 to reverse their statement about rapper B.I.

In a previous report, it was alleged that Yang tried to change a witness' statement to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission regarding the said witness' previous claims that B.I was purchasing and using illegal drugs, an accusation that both Yang and B.I have denied.

His first hearing will take place on 25 June.

Yang Hyun-suk is one of the most well-known music executives that helped bring the Hallyu Wave by introducing idol groups like BIG BANG, 2NE1, BLACKPINK, as well as singers like Seven and Psy. However, he resigned as CEO of YG Entertainment in 2019 amid controversies involving the Burning Sun scandal and other allegations.
