'XXX: Return of Xander Cage' Trailer: Vin Diesel Goes to Extremes
If you’ve ever wished that James Bond would start lifting, get some tattoos, and learn to drive a motorcycle underwater, then xXx: Return of Xander Cage (in theaters January 20, 2017) will be just your speed. Vin Diesel returns to the franchise as extreme athelete–turned–secret agent xXx, who is once again recruited by an NSA agent (Samuel L. Jackson) for a dangerous mission. This time, he has to recover a deadly military weapon from a team of bad guys, led by Chinese action star (and Star Wars: Rogue One actor) Donnie Yen. Or as Jackson describes Xander Cage’s job: “Kick some ass, get the girl, and try to look dope while you’re doing it.” Watch the new trailer above.

The original xXx commanded $142 million at the box office in 2002, cementing Vin Diesel’s action-star status in the wake of 2001’s The Fast and the Furious. Just as he sat out the second movie in that franchise — 2 Fast 2 Furious (which starred Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson) — Diesel didn’t return for the 2005 sequel xXx: State of the Union (which starred Ice Cube as new xXx agent Darius Stone, a former Navy Seal charged with preventing a coup.) While rumors that Darius Stone would appear in Return of Xander Cage seem to be unfounded, the new film is definitely making a play as a Fast and Furious-style ensemble franchise. The big personalities joining up with Xander Cage in the film are an eclectic group from around the globe, including English UFC fighter Michael Bisping, Australian actress Ruby Rose, Brazilian football player Neymar, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone, and Latin Grammy Award-winning singer Nicky Jam.
