Wu Kang-ren wins Best Actor for "Abang Adik"

27 Nov - Wu Kang-ren has recently won his first ever Golden Horse Award for Best Actor for his performance in the Malaysian production, "Abang Adik".

The Taiwanese actor bested contenders Ethan Juan, Wang Po-chieh, as well as "Marry My Dead Body" stars Austin Lin and Greg Han to bag the coveted accolade for his performance as a hearing-impaired undocumented orphan in the said movie.

Wu couldn't help but teared up as his name was announced the winner, and hugged his crew before walking onto the stage.

He expressed, "We should all be proud of the movies we made. I really love movies and I really love acting."

The actor also thanked director Jin Ong and producer Angelica Lee for introducing him to Malaysia through the movie, as well as his co-star Jack Tan.

To the latter he said, "Without you as my brother, I would not understand the language in Malaysia. Thank you for accompanying me in many places. I hope everything will go smoothly for you when you come to Taiwan to shoot. Thank you, all the crew, in Malaysia."

Wu also later mentioned with emotion that he only entered the industry at the age of 27 and that he didn't understand acting at all. He tried many different methods, including taking a lot of roles, using method acting just to find what would work for him. While it was not ideal, it has now added to his experiences in acting.
