Set to appeal to everyone’s inner child, the world’s first cruise ship to offer a Cartoon Network experience will make its maiden voyage from Singapore in late 2018.

The themed cruise liner is a partnership between Singapore-based cruise management company Oceanic Group and Turner, the media giant behind Cartoon Network.

Named Cartoon Network Wave, the ship will feature Jake the Dog from “Adventure Time” across its facade, and popular characters including Johnny Bravo, Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, and We Bare Bears will mingle with and entertain guests during the cruise.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore at a media conference on Thursday (25 Jan), Daniel Chui, Chief Executive of Oceanic Group, said, “There is always a child in us. When the characters came out (during the media conference), there were adults older than me, or as old as me and there was this very spontaneous magical connection that just happened.”

“It means all this time, this imagination in us, this child in us is trying to find the right time, the right place and right environment to manifest,” he added.

The ship will set sail to 13 popular destinations in the Asia Pacific region including Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia and Japan. Dates and itineraries for its routes around the region will be announced in the coming months.

With 11 decks of shopping, leisure and entertainment options alongside nine restaurants, pubs and bars offering gastronomic options with Cartoon Network elements, there is fun on board for everyone from “child to parent to grandparents”.

Highlights include retro nights, circus shows and foam parties where guests can hang out with their favourite Cartoon Network characters.

You can even score a date with Johnny Bravo in the classic American Diner and enjoy traditional American fare or join Jake and Finn in navigating a rope course. There will also be indoor and outdoor spaces for children aged four to 12 called the Young Tooniverse to play at and join in activities with their favourite Toonix friends.

Describing the experience as “cruise travel meets personalised journeys through experiential storytelling”, Chui believes Cartoon Network Wave will stand apart from other themed cruise ships.

“Cartoon Network Wave will revolutionise cruise travel in the Asia Pacific region and create and curate new cruise experiences for holiday makers, cruise goers and generations of pop culture fans,” he said.
