Wong Jing's "Kung Fu Cult Master" sequel cancelled because of Stephen Chow?
30 Sep - Wong Jing recently admitted that he had wanted to make the sequel to Jet Li's 1993 film, "Kung Fu Cult Master", but was unable to do so because of Stephen Chow.
No, this is not another Stephen Chow diss by the filmmaker, as Wong revealed in the most recent video posted to his YouTube channel.
The filmmaker, who focused his latest video about the martial arts actor, said that he and Jet Li worked closely together to shoot three movies in just one year, which he said had deepened his friendship with the actor.
Among the movies they worked together on was "Kung Fu Cult Master", a film that he expected to succeed due to its star-studded cast members but ended up not doing as well at the box office.
As to why this happened, Wong said that the movie was Jet's seventh release in 1993 and that the audiences were a little bit tired of seeing him on the big screen. It was also due to the fact that there were a lot of period films that were released at the same time.
Wong also revealed that he planned to make a sequel to the said movie, but that it was shelved because of Stephen Chow. He explained that the success of the "Justice Pao" TV series had prompted the creation of a comedy version for the said character, which had Stephen playing it in the movie, "Hail the Judge".
As the producers were more invested in the project, Wong was unable to proceed with the sequel.
Meanwhile, speaking of Jet Li, Wong was full of praises for the actor, describing him as a friendly and sincere person.
