Where does ‘Wonder Woman’ go next?
It’s no secret that the highly-anticipated ‘Wonder Woman’ solo film takes us back to the superheroine’s island roots, reliving her origin story for the first time on the big screen. But what’s next for the iconic hero?
It sounds as though director Patty Jenkins already has some ideas for the sequel.
“I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero,” she told the Toronto Sun. “I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing,”

“Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is,” she added. “I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.”
And that sounds like a great idea.
It’s very easy to draw parallels between ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ – especially since both are essentially presented as period superhero movies. Sure, the settings are a little different, but it sounds as though ‘Wonder Woman’ is getting similar treatment to Marvel’s classic Avengers.
And if the success of ‘Captain America’ is anything to go by, that’s a very good idea.
Of course, bringing ‘Wonder Woman’ up to date in her next movie will begin to flesh out her modern-day backstory long after her appearance in ‘Justice League’. And it sounds as though her character could end up taking a long while to develop.
An interesting route, considering DC is playing catch-up at this stage.
So why did they decide to tackle Wonder Woman’s origin story first?
“I always thought the origin story would be the great way to go,” she explained. “I love origin superhero stories and I love the simplicity you can have with that journey. Also, there was the fact that no one had done her story and the fact that I love her. So it was a treasure trove of potential.”
‘Wonder Woman’ stars Gal Gadot as the iconic superhero, alongside Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, Lucy Davis, and David Thewlis.
Patty Jenkins directed the movie based on a script by Allan Heinberg.
