'Wonder Woman 1984' director says 'we need more variety in superhero movies, not less'

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins says that there needs to be even more variety in superhero movies.

Jenkins made the declaration on Twitter after a user reached out to her to praise Wonder Woman 1984. KJB Movies told Jenkins that he “loved the film,” before calling it “something we haven’t seen in modern day superhero films” and a “breath of fresh air” to the genre.”

After thanking KJB Movies, Jenkins then added, “I agree we need more variety in superhero movies, not less. They are the grand metaphors of our times! Why not use them for it! Particularly as a way to reach the next generation of heroes.”

Released on Christmas Day, Wonder Woman 1984 saw Jenkins re-team with Gal Gadot, as the Israeli actress once again starred as the titular superhero.

This time around, Gadot’s Diana Prince goes up against Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Minerva, who manifests into the evil Cheetah after being exposed to the mystical abilities of the Dreamstone, as well as Pedro Pascal’s Machiavellian businessman Maxwell Lord.

Jenkins didn’t just direct Wonder Woman 1984. She also has a co-story, co-writer, and producer credit, while it was also produced by Gadot, too.

Not everyone was overjoyed by their work on Wonder Woman 1984, though, which now only has a score of 61% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been criticised by some viewers for being too clichéd.

Jenkins and Gadot will soon have a chance to better that score, as it has already been confirmed that they’ll reunite for Wonder Woman 3.
