This woman’s response to her employer’s racist and misogynistic dress code rules is the best

In 2016 it kind of seems funny that there are still strict rules about dress codes. In fact, dress codes have become a bit of an issue of contention, especially when they’re used to penalize and shame people. Obviously we understand the concepts behind them, but we totally feel that dress codes shouldn’t be used in a negative way, or as a point of harassment.

You’d think that discriminating against people in the work place as old news, but as this one woman found out it’s well and truly alive.

June J Rivas wore a cultural headscarf into work one day, and thought nothing of it. Her boss, however, felt differently.

“So my boss didn’t like me wearing my hair in A ponytail every day ‘Unprofessional’,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “[N]or my hair in A scarf ‘Unprofessional’ Nor my hair in pigtails. ‘Unprofessional’.”

Rivas then uploaded a picture of what she normally wears to work.

“I filed a harassment complaint against her as our contract states “No dress code. Just be clean and pressed,” she continued in her post. “To counter, she issued a brand new memo. We now have a dress code. No any of above plus no straps, hats, sandals, cleavage, back out, lace, and even (and I quote) ‘cultural head wraps’.”

Not one to take such blatant bigotry lying down, Rivas made a complain to the EEOC, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. However, she decided to comply with the new regulations…just not in the way her boss intended.

Rivas decided that she’d dress up in cosplay outfits that matched the new dress code rules.

Ending her post with a hashtag, Rivas wrote, “#NeverPissOffCosplayingScorpios”
