Chinese fashion designer Sensen Lii, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, debuted part of his latest ready-to-wear collection on Sunday night at L’Élysée Montmartre in the form of a drag ball in partnership with European Latex Ball, a drag event organizer that advocates for safe sex practices in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Despite the fact that around two-thirds of the collection was stuck at customs, Lii put out an exhilarating experience. His dramatic sporty-couture aesthetic — which in the past has been seen on all four members of Blackpink, as well as Rita Ora and Priyanka Chopra — bonded well with the local drag community in Paris.

Performers including “Drag Race France” hosts Nicky Doll and Kiddy Smile, as well as La Grande Dame, Sminty Drop, Naby Nymph, Aryuna and Gaïa Imperial graced the floor with energizing walks while flaunting Lii’s dramatic fur coats, animated bodysuits and rhinestoned hoodies.

“Ballroom, drag and queer culture have always been my most important sources of design inspiration. The inspiration for my first collection, while I was still in school at Antwerp, was drag culture, so this collection is really a continuation of that, through which I am hoping to speak out for the community and express myself truly,” Lii said.

The reveal of the collection was accompanied by a short 3D concept film, “Chat Angels,” which offered “a more interesting way to do storytelling, and let our fans and followers understand and follow what we would like to talk about.”

Having relocated to Paris, Lii said he would like to be more deeply connected with his community, and focus more on the development of couture creations in the future, with more showcases planned for next year.
