Why Did Taylor Swift Cut Songs from the Eras Tour Concert Movie?

When Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert film premiered this week, fans quickly noticed that the on-screen Eras isn't exactly the in-person version. Namely, four songs have been cut from the setlist.

The songs that didn't make the movie include "The Archer" from the Lover set, "no body, no crime" (featuring Haim) from evermore, "Long Live" from Speak Now, "Wildest Dreams" from 1989, and "cardigan" from folklore. (Technically, "Long Live" is still in the movie, as a studio version plays over the credits.)

In addition, since the movie was filmed in Los Angeles, songs she had performed as part of the main set list at different stops—"'tis the damn season," "Nothing New" (feat. Phoebe Bridgers) and "Invisible String"—were not included. In addition, Swift scrapped the "seven" interlude, and shortened many of the transitions between eras.

Why were these songs cut from the Eras Tour movie? While Swift hasn't given an official answer, the answer likely lies in the runtime. The film clocks in at 2 hours, 48 minutes; the typical Eras Tour performance ran for around 3 hours, 15 minutes, which would likely be considered too long of a film.

Fans can only hope that when Swift decides to release the Eras Tour on streaming, she does so with an extended cut—including all the songs from the setlist. As one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter), "If we can get all too well 10 minute version like 10 years on we will ONE DAY get an eras tour movie extended cut."
