Here’s why Ariana Grande will ALWAYS wear a ponytail
There are some things in life that are just better together! Like peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti and meatballs, and Ariana Grande and her iconic ponytail. Girlfriend loves her ponytail and is seldom seen rocking any other style (she even cut a hole in a baseball cap so she could still rock the pony — talk about dedication). But newsflash, guys! That’s how she likes it. The Ariana ponytail is here to stay.
Ari told Byrdie that she had no idea her ubiquitous pony was going to become such a pop culture staple.
She said, “I had no idea that it was going to become, like, a thing. It’s how I like my hair. It’s how I’ve always liked my hair. Picture me in fourth grade with a little half-up side-pony flopping around my head. I never expected it to become such a thing. This is what makes me comfortable.”
Though her signature pony is usually sky high and rife with sassiness, she loves the diversity of the look. “I feel like there’s a thousand different ways to do a ponytail. A million!”
Ariana simply loves her pony. She says, “It brings me so much joy, honestly. very time I put my hair up, it’s like a surprise. Like, I forget how much I love it, and then I tie it back and I’m like, ‘I love this look! Ooh, girl!’ Every time I tie it up is like the first time. It’s like true love.”
As for the haters who insist on her trying out different styles? She’s got one simple message for them:
“Shit, you don’t like my ponytail? I’m gonna have it two times bigger tomorrow, and higher, tighter, more hair in there too! Shit, I’ll crimp it! You ain’t seen a crimp like this in 20 years!”
In all seriousness, though, Ari’s ponytail love holds a deeper message of empowerment that she hopes her fans can take to heart.
“Be yourself and don’t listen to any trends. If you happen to like something that is trendy, cool—but just because it’s ‘in’ at the time doesn’t mean that you have to jump on the bandwagon. Being yourself is one of the coolest things that you can do. As hard as it may be to get there, once you find that comfort, run with it.”
“My fans, I just really want them to feel empowered by who they are, and to not be afraid of it. Embrace it—then run with it.”
