While You’re Thinking About Brazil, Meet The Country’s Best Homegrown Designers

In a sea of long-established Brazilian jewelry designers, Roberta do Rio is a breath of fresh air. She’s relatively new to the scene, having begun her career in 2010 after taking a goldsmithing course and falling in love with the craft. Six years later — and with her own atelier in Ipanema — Roberta has found her niche creating one-of-a-kind rings, necklaces, and earrings often featuring gold and an element of color.

To celebrate the 2016 Summer Olympics, the designer has unveiled what may be her sweetest creation to date: The “Olympia” necklace, in tribute to the part of ancient Greece where the first Olympic Games were held. Made of 18k yellow gold, the limited edition charm depicts an olive wreath with the word “Rio” in the middle.

“[It’s] a symbol of victory and unity of cultures, passions and mastery in sports,” says Roberta. “This necklace should represent the unique moment [in my] hometown while hosting hundreds of nationalities during this special occasion.” Any of this year’s athletes would be nuts not to want one of these mini mementoes.
