One Day is, without question, everyone's favourite heartbreaking romantic drama on TV right now. The story begins in Edinburgh, where the lead characters Dexter (played by Leo Woodall) and Emma (played by Ambika Mod) meet at their university graduation ball in a chance encounter, after accidentally bumping into one another.

The pair's lives intertwine after spending a night together, despite never having spoken to one another during their studies. The rest of the series follows their relationship over the next 20 years, looking at where life has taken them after that unforgettable night.

While figuring out what he wants to do with his life, Dexter stumbles into TV presenting after graduating with a 2:2 in Anthropology. Meanwhile Emma tries her hand at acting and waitressing, and eventually becomes a writer with the help of her degree in English & History.

If you're anything like us and have been left in a One Day rabbit hole, with a plethora of questions after watching the show (including What happens to Dexter Emma's death? and Will there be a One Day sequel?), you'll be happy that our attention has now turned to the actors' real life studies. As the backdrop of the show starts off with the main characters in university, we decided to look into where the actors went to college and university, IRL.

Ambika Mod - St Mary's College, Durham

Much like her character in the series, Mod is highly intelligent. The actor studied at Durham, a university known for its global rankings and competition for a place. The actor graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Studies.

Leo Woodall - Arts Educational School, Chiswick

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Woodall revealed that he initially wanted to get into sports. 'Growing up I wanted to be a PE teacher or a stuntman,' he said. Although he comes from a family of actors, his father, Andrew Woodall warned him from following in his footsteps. 'Whatever you do, don't be a f***ing actor,' the One Day star says of his father's words. Despite this, The White Lotus star decided to become an actor after watching Peaky Blinders, which led him to enrol at the Arts Educational School, where he graduated in 2019 with a BA in acting.

Jonny Weldon - Sylvia Young Theatre School, London

After an early entry into the industry at 11 years old as Michael Banks in the original West End production of Mary Poppins in 2004, Jonny Weldon (who plays Ian in One Day) went on to star in other theatre roles, and studied at the famous Sylvia Young Theatre school.

Amber Grappy - LAMDA, London

Amber Grappy, who stars as Emma's best friend Tilly in One Day, and also played a part in bringing Emma and Dexter together, studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. During her third year the school, Grappy scored her first major role on HBO's The Baby.
