'The Wheel of Time' Will Keep Spinning In Season 3

The Wheel of Time spins on. The clock has struck three as the WGA finally came to a deal with Hollywood's major film and television studios, signaling that a third season for the Amazon Prime Video fantasy series is right around the corner. Though the streamer just wrapped up with the Season Two finale, there are still a dozen books in the series left to cover. If the other big-time Prime Video fantasy franchise doesn't gobble up all of Amazon's budget, we're hopefully looking at a lot more time with this wheel.

"S3 is even more sophisticated and rich and deep than S2," showrunner Rafe Judkins wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "I’ve always said that people grew up with the books. That the tone and storytelling and emotions of the first book progress and mature until you reach the incredible depths of the final books. I hope the show is the same."

Prime Video renewed the series for a third season back in July 2022, an entire year before Season Two even aired. While Season Two covered both the second and third book in the series, The Great Hunt and The Dragon Reborn, it remains unknown just how far Season Three will go.

For starters, we'll definitely see an adaptation of book number four, The Shadow Rising. The novel has 58 chapters, making it the lengthiest of the long-running series. Rand al'Thor uses the newly claimed crystal sword, Padan Fain seeks vengeance at the Two Rivers, and a coup threatens the White Tower. Exciting! Season Three will also reportedly delve more into the Forsaken, a powerful group of channelers who serve the Shadow. One of their members, Moghedien (Laia Costa), arrived for the first time in Season Two to scare our heroes right out of their wits.

"Coursing out of the Forsaken is something we think a lot about […] who do you meet when, how do they function in the story?” Judkins told Polygon. "It’s something that for us we pay a lot of attention to because any scene that any of the Forsaken are in should be impactful. And so, the reason we did that Moghedien scene was really that you feel the impact of the other Forsaken right at the end, even just feeling Lanfear’s fear — like, a character that you haven’t seen be afraid the entire season suddenly afraid of someone is a great way to be introduced to how the Forsaken function in the rest of the show."

Fans may have to wait until 2025 to finally catch a glimpse of the action, but Prime Video remains committed to the series. Let the countdown begin.
