West Wing and The Good Doctor star Richard Schiff is being treated in hospital, having contracted COVID-19.

The 65-year-old actor, who tested positive on the day of the US presidential election, updated fans on Twitter, telling them he's being treated with steroids, oxygen and the drug Remdesivir.

He added that his wife, the actor Sheila Kelley, is 'home and doing better but still fairly ill'.

“Covid update. Thank you all for so much love and support. You’re making it so much easier for @thesheilakelley and me,” he wrote.

“I am in the hospital on Remdesivir, O2 and steroids showing some improvement every day.”

Schiff played White House communications director Toby Ziegler in The West Wing, as well as Dr. Aaron Glassman in ABD drama The Good Doctor.

Kelley is known for her roles in shows like LA Law and Sisters.

She told followers on Instagram last week: “My son and I are still riding this strange covid coaster up and then down and all around.

“I have never experienced anything like this before in my life. One minute I'm feeling pretty good and the next I'm struggling to breathe. What I do know is if you get this virus the relationship between you and and your body is everything.

“Where did we catch it? I don't know. Could've been the gym. Could've been take out. It's impossible to know..

“Keeping masking up. Washing hands. Stay away from the virus. It is a mother'f-er. We love you.”
