Wen Hua Fishball Noodles: $3.50 stall to close before Feb

Sometimes, all you need to get answers is to take a shot in the dark online. A user on Hawkers United – Dabao 2020 posted a query on 18 Jan. It was about the status of Wen Hua Fishball Noodles at Boon Wah Family Restaurant @ Ubi. An hour later, he would get his answer. The owners have retired

The daughter of the stall owners, Sin Yee Lee explained that the kopitiam they were located in has plans to renovate come Feb. As a result, her parents decided to close up shop. She thanked everyone for their love and support for her parents’ stall and added that she would notify everyone should Wen Hua Fishball Noodles relocate.

The original poster gave a bittersweet reply. There was happiness that the owners could enjoy a well-deserved retirement but sadness that he would undoubtedly miss the food. Some comments under Sin Yee Lee’s reply urged her to keep them updated if Wen Hua should reopen someplace else.

As Wen Hua Fishball Noodles was located at an old-school zi char eatery, some refer to it as Boon Wah Fishball Noodles.

They have customers who reminisce about eating their noodles for over 20 years. The loyalty could be attributed to several things, including their wallet-friendly prices. All their menu items, be it the Mee Pok Dry, Kway Teow Mee Soup and Fish Ball Soup start at S$3.50 and only go up to S$4.50.

Some long-time customers even have their own custom orders, like having meatballs with their noodles instead. The rapport built between the owners and customers could be another factor. One commenter revealed that the stall auntie would remember her mother’s orders as she was a regular.

Fortunately, a relocation is still potentially on the table. Maybe we will see some updates soon.
