The 'Black Mirror' Season 6 Trailer Will Give You Serious Anxiety
While you all wait for the creepy virtual reality headset from "Playtest" to hit the market, it looks like Netflix is ordering a sixth season of its dystopian hit series, Black Mirror. By Season Six, the question remains: what's left to explore? There's been some recent new technology trends such as TikTok, AI songs, cryptocurrency, and NFT's, but Black Mirror lives in the unexpected. Not much can be gathered plot-wise in the new trailer for the upcoming season, but it sure still looks creepy and weird.
According to Variety, Black Mirror's creator, Charlie Brooker, worked on the first new episodes of the series since the fifth season debuted on June 5, 2019, also known as several lifetimes ago. "Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect," Brooker told Netflix. "Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what a Black Mirror episode even is." More nightmares for all of us, it seems.
Now, we even know a handful of actors who will join Brooker's dystopia. Once again, Variety came through on the Black Mirror beat, revealing that Zazie Beetz, Paapa Essiedu, Josh Hartnett, Aaron Paul, Kate Mara, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton and Anjana Vasan are the featured players in three episodes. In the new trailer, Aaron Paul is seen on some sort of space station—and Zazie Beetz is trying to access dial-up Internet. TBD how many episodes we'll get, but this means there will surely be more casting news in the future. According to Netflix, there's even roles for Michael Cera, Rory Culkin, Rob Delaney, and Salma Hayek in there somewhere.
All of the Black Mirror news is a little surprising to see, after Brooker told Radio Times that he wasn't sure if the series had a future past its fifth season. “At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those," he said, referring to the coronavirus pandemic. "I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.” If there's anyone we trust to put a spin on our hellish past few years that's actually required watching, it's Brooker.
