Weekend guide (31 March-2 April): Coldplay, Singapore Jazz Festival

It’s an exciting weekend from 31 March to 2 April, as Coldplay returns to Singapore as part of their A Head Full of Dreams Tour and the Singapore Jazz Festival returns to Marina Bay Sands with an exciting line-up.

1. Coldplay – A Head Full of Dreams Tour

Coldplay returns to Singapore after eight years to perform at the National Stadium on 31 March and 1 April. The highly-anticipated concert sold out all of its tickets for both shows. The last time a sold-out two-day concert happened at the Singapore National Stadium was in 1994 when the late Michael Jackson had his “Dangerous” show here.

2. Singapore Jazz Festival

Back for the fourth year, the three-day festival will feature award-winning performers such as Corrine Bailey Rae and Esperanza Spalding, as well as veterans such as Chaka Khan and Brian McKnight. This year’s show will also introduce a new segment called The Late Show, a curated line-up of international DJs, including Bassment Jaxx and Rudimental.

3. Meeting in the Middle: Asian Women in Focus

Local publisher Ethos Books wraps up women’s month by bringing together female authors, Jinat Rehana Begum, Krishna Udayasankar and Noelle Q. de Jesus, who will discuss a range of issues surrounding intersectionality, visibility and diversity among women writers. Attendees can also look out for a book exchange session.

4. Armin Only Embrace World Tour 2017

Catch Dutch DJ Armin Van Buuren during his solo DJ-set at The Meadows, Gardens by the Bay. The 40-year-old will be in town to promote his new album “Embrace”.

5. Step Up, Speak out! – Dementia & Young Caregivers

Local advocacy group Project We Forgot (PWF) hopes to create awareness on dementia patients in Singapore with this outreach event comprising of interactive panel discussions. The event also aims to serve as a space for younger caregivers to seek identification and support.

6. The Artisan Fair at Suntec City

The Artisan Fair features over 40 independent designers and artists offering exquisite and carefully curated wares. Look out for unique artworks, wearable art, decadent treats, and fine interior decor. The items available will be changing throughout the month, so it is worth more than one visit.

7. Soul Family

Take the family out for Caribbean food and live music at Camp Kilo’s Soul Family. A slew of activities by Playstreet SG will keep the kids entertained and a Rasta Market will be available for some Caribbean shopping.

8. Soul Movie Nite

Independent cinema The Projector is hosting a Soul Movie Nite, during which they will be screening the popular documentary on the late soul singer Amy Winehouse. Stay back for an after-party with local acts Vandetta, Instigator Afrobeat Orchestra, Soul Shakers Singapura and DJ Justo.

9. EXO Planet #3 – The EXO’rDIUM – in Singapore

K-pop giant EXO returns to Singapore on 2 April at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. This concert will be part of their third world tour.
