Weekend guide (3-5 August): Hyperplay, Japan Park, Inclusive Sports Festival

Here are Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore’s picks of some of the best activities this weekend, which include an ASEAN eSports and a music festival for youths, a Japan-themed festival for the whole family, and a disability-friendly event for Singaporeans of all abilities.

Aimed at youths from around the region, the first-ever ASEAN eSports and music festival will feature several international music acts as well as a League of Legends ASEAN tournament. Singers Nick Jonas from the US, Alessia Cara from Canada, CL from South Korea, Afgan from Indonesia, Singapore pop group The Sam Willows, and Thai rock band Slot Machine will provide the musical entertainment. This festival is part of the YouthX weekend, organised by the National Youth Council.

SHINE Festival

Celebrating talented youths from the arts, music, dance and media, the 13th edition of this festival – part of the YouthX weekend – will feature interactive booths and activities such as the Super 24 Dance competition, Musical Walkway and B-Boy Street. Several local performing artists, including Gentle Bones and Tabitha Nauser, will be taking the stage. The festival will also feature an Arena of Valor Glory Cup competition, in which three teams from Singapore and Malaysia respectively will battle for a slice of a prize pool worth S$22,000.

Japan Park

Billed as a theme park-style event for the whole family, this festival will showcase the best offerings from Japan’s 47 prefectures. The event area will be split into six different zones with a focus on food and travel, including Discover Japan, WA-Shiok Gourmet Festa and Omakase Stage. Swimming champion Joseph Schooling and former WWE wrestler Jushin “Thunder” Liger will make special appearances.

A Tale of Convergence by Leica Galerie

This multi-sensory photography exhibition will showcase the works of acclaimed photographers Yik Keat and Geoff Ang. Visitors can also experience Augmented Reality (AR) during the exhibition by downloading the app ARTIVIVE.

Inclusive Sports Festival

Aimed at encouraging persons with disabilities (PWDs) to be more active, the second edition of this inclusive event aims to bring together Singaporeans of all abilities through adaptive sports, fitness and equipment tryouts as well as workshops. Singapore Paralympian Nurul Taha will make a special appearance.

Heritage Festival at the Waterfront

Savour the nostalgic flavours of yesteryear with a buffet at this hotel, in which the buffet menus are rotated. Customers can also indulge in durians along the Singapore River during dinner from 1 to 16 August. Children aged six to 11 will receive 50 per cent off adult pricing for the buffet.

Doctors Without Borders Film Festival

Seeking to broaden awareness of human suffering and humanitarian crises, the Doctors Without Borders Film Festival will screen five documentaries, covering global issues such as the Ebola crisis and war-torn Afghanistan. A post-screening sharing session by frontline field workers will also be held after the screenings.

TedxPickeringStreet – Thrive
