Weekend guide (23-25 February): Chingay Parade, Evita the musical
The last weekend of February is jam-packed with Singapore’s largest street parade, award-winning production Evita’s premiere and even the return of everyone’s favourite funnyman Russell Peters with a whole new comedic act.
Chingay Parade
The annual parade of dazzling floats, dancing dragons and stilt walkers is back. The largest street performance and float parade in Asia extends from the original F1 Pit Building, via the back of Singapore Flyer, to the Marina Bay floating platform, where River Hongbao is also held. The parade route will also make its way across the heartlands.

Huayi – Chinese Festival of Arts
Spread over 10 days, the 16th edition of the Chinese arts and music festival returns with over 200 family-friendly programmes including puppet shows and concerts. Highlights include Einstein in the Carpark, a commissioned site-specific piece by performance group Emergency Stairs, transforming Esplanade’s basement carpark into its stage.

Russell Peters
Somebody’s gonna have a laugh this weekend. At least according to funnyman Russell Peters who returns to Singapore with all-new material for a one-night show. Last in Asia in 2015 and 2016, the Canadian stand-up comedian most recently filmed Almost Famous and The Indian Detective for Netflix.

Once Upon a Time
In celebration of the Lunar New Year, popular music collective The TENG Ensemble returns with Once Upon a Time. Their performance includes familiar tunes such as a medley of Disney classics and Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng’s best loved songs. There will also be a special appearance by pop and R&B artist Gareth Fernandez.

Evita
With more than 20 major awards, the original Broadway and West End production of the iconic musical Evita comes to Singapore, directed by legendary Broadway director Hal Prince. The performance follows the story of Eva Peron, wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron, from her humble beginnings to her rise as the “spiritual leader of the nation” by the Argentine people.

A Date with Dwayne – Let’s Go Steady
Following a sold-out run in 2015, join Dwayne and his friends as they take you through Love’s journey of break-ups, crushes, loss, infatuations and marriage. Together with the madcap cast of local acting veterans including Siti Khalijah and Elaine Chan, the play promises to be steamy and romantic, yet heartfelt and sincere.
