Weekend guide (13-15 April): Swedish film fest, Party at Sands SkyPark, tea masterclass

This weekend, Singapore fans of Swedish auteur Ingmar Bergman can congregate this week for the third installation of the Swedish Film Festival. Tea lovers are in for a treat, too, with a masterclass in tea blending by tea maker Victor Koh. Party animals can strut down to Sands SkyPark’s mega event, or celebrate Peaches Club’s relaunch. Art lovers will want to check out a new exhibition featuring Zai Kuning.

Swedish Film Festival 2018: 100 Years Of Ingmar Bergman

The Swedish Film Festival this year turns the spotlight on filmmaking great Ingmar Bergman. Eight works by the celebrated director – curated by local filmmaker and Bergman fan Kirsten Han – will be shown at indie cinema The Projector over four days. The line-up includes Bergman’s most famous films such as The Seventh Seal, Fanny and Alexander and Wild Strawberries.

Peaches Club Relaunch

Peaches Club is relocating from its former site in the basement of York Hotel to the Concorde Hotel on Kramat Lane, and it’s relaunching with a liquid buffet on Friday and 2000s pop anthems on Saturday. Anna Stacia and Yeastmonster are guest performers for the opening weekend.

LAVO & Spago Present: A Party in the Sky


Marina Bay Sands hotel’s signature restaurants Spago by Wolfgang Puck and LAVO Singapore are collaborating for this party in the sky at the Sands SkyPark. The event will be held at LAVO, South Garden at Sands SkyPark, and Spago bar and lounge. Revellers can make merry all night with live DJ sets and free-flow bites and drinks, set against the spectacular backdrop of the city skyline.

Tea blending masterclass

Renku Bar and Lounge at MBS will host a tea blending masterclass where participants can gain a better understanding about the health benefits of drinking tea, and learn to blend special wellness teas. Founder and tea maker of ETTE tea company Victor Koh will share insights on unique tea blends and recommend food pairings.

Zai Kuning art exhibition

This solo exhibition, which runs until 2 June, features recent works by one of Singapore’s pioneer experimental artists Zai Kuning. Artworks on show include ink drawings from his Ombak Hitam series and paper works from the Serial Burner series, as well as installation piece Dapunta Mapping the Melayu. The selection contemplates the relationship between humans and nature. The artist himself will be at the exhibition’s opening reception.
