All the Ways 'Freeridge' Connects With 'On My Block'
If you're a huge On My Block fan, then you should already know that its big spin-off, Freeridge, is finally out. But while there is a new core four in town, fans might be surprised to see just how many familiar moments there are in the brand-new series. (And no, we're not just talking about the setting.) There are plenty of big connections, including some that you may have missed on your first watch.
Here are all the connections between Freeridge and On My Block.
The New Core Four
This actually isn't the first time we've seen these newbies on the block. They were in the original show's final episode, giving a cute nod to our OGs as they peeked into the party that was happening in Ruby's backyard. However, you might notice that Tenzing Norgay Trainor (who plays Cameron) is not in that original group. Originally, Shiv Pai was cast but was later replaced for unknown reasons.
Ruby's Parents
There's a reason why the kids were able to get such a good view from the other side of the fence. That's because it's revealed that Gloria and Ines actually live next door to Ruben and Geny, aka Ruby's Parents.
Plus Extra Surprise Cameos...
In episode four we get to revisit Dwayne's Joint BBQ where we get to see Jamal's parents Fran and Dwayne again as the group tries to get ahold of Jamal. Sadly, we don't actually get to see him, as it's revealed that his parents use a special cube to try to contact him. (If you're a true fan of the show, you know just to accept that last sentence....)
Oh, and One More Big Appearance
Who can forget the iconic Peggy Blow, who brought Marisol to life in the original series?! Thankfully for us, she's back once again, this time playing her former character's super rich and wild twin sister, Mariluna. Thanks to Gloria, she starts reconnecting with her sister's son and daughter-in-law, finally folding her into the family.
Even Some Santos Return
Who would've guessed we'd be seeing more of the Santos's personal lives?! Joker is revealed to be Davina's boyfriend who appears in several episodes. Meanwhile, Sad Eyes also appears in the season finale.
Location, Location, Location
Apart from Gloria's house being right next door to Ruby's and Dwayne's BBQ, we also head back to the high school for some fun.
Meeting Your Gnomies
Remember Juanita, the gnome that Chivo had in On My Block? Well, we finally get to meet the real Juanita in Freeridge when she reveals the story behind the gnome, even admitting that she has made multiple gnomes because he breaks them. And yes, they look exactly the same!
A Certain Treasure
The Santos believe the Rollerworld money is still out there, and the new core four also learn about it. Unfortunately, the search for it isn't over, which is evident in the season's heartbreaking finale.
And Freeridge, Duh!
I mean, it would be dumb to ignore the show's biggest connection: the town itself, which makes it all feel familiar yet new at the same time.
