WATCH: Marjorie Prime trailer with Jon Hamm is just like Black Mirror

Married couples take a vow: till death do us part. But what if there was a way to come back?

If you’re a fan of Black Mirror or dystopian science fiction, then Marjorie Prime is right up your alley. In fact, it’s already being compared to the former, with distinct similarities to the Black Mirror episodes “Be Right Back” and “San Junipero”. There are also echoes of Still Alice (see our review).

Jon Hamm – last seen in Baby Driver – plays the holographic version of Walter, the long-deceased husband of the titular 86-year-old Marjorie (Lois Smith). But he’s not just Walter: he’s eternally young, smart and attractive. As he tells Marjorie: “I’ll be right here — I have all the time in the world.”

But her daughter Tess (Geena Davis) and son-in-law Jon (Tim Robbins) aren’t so comfortable with the new Walter. And so it goes, as the family dynamics begin to change.

Based on Jordan Harrison’s play of the same name, there’s a distinctly melancholy, aching feel to Marjorie Prime, which has already gotten critical acclaim. Plus, Jon Hamm, Davis and Robbins are three of our favourites, so we’re more than prepared to give this a chance.

No word yet on when Marjorie Prime will be released in Singapore, but keep watching this space for details!
