What to watch if you loved Ginny & Georgia
Season two of Ginny & Georgia just dropped on Netflix and chances are you've already binged the entire thing - or you're close to the finish line.
But once you've stayed up until 4am and clicked the last 'watch next episode' button, there's nothing worse than the dreaded feeling that fills your body. What do I watch next? What am I going to do with myself? Should I rewatch it again? Yep, we've all been there.
Not to worry though, as we've compiled a list of some of our fave shows that will help you through this dark time. From old classics like Gilmore Girls to more recent classics like Euphoria, here are 10 series to watch if you loved Ginny & Georgia.
Gilmore Girls
The fictional town of Wellsbury, Massachusetts where Georgia and her kids Ginny and Austin move to has been compared to the Gilmore Girls town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut.
While Georgia and Ginny have more drama in their lives, and the show doesn't feel as cosy as the noughties series, viewers will definitely pick up some of the similarities.
And whether you've watched Gilmore Girls before or not, there's no denying that Lorelai and Rory Gilmore will suck you right in.
Euphoria
Euphoria was one of the biggest shows of 2022, with season two even winning Zendaya the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Following a group of high school students who are coming of age, topics include drug struggles, love, social media and money. And like in Ginny & Georgia, the show explores mental health, just with more of a raw, in-depth approach.
The show also boasts some other massive names, including Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Hunter Schafter, Barbie Ferreira, Angus Cloud and Alexa Demie.
Heads up, though it's not a light watch, and there are some pretty dark moments.
Inventing Anna
If the conning side of things is what you're into in Ginny & Georgia, we can only assume you'll LOVE Inventing Anna.
Julia Garner stars as Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) and tells the true story of the fake German heiress who tried to con the New York elite out of millions of dollars.
While Georgia's lifestyle is completely fictional, there's no denying that both portrayals ooze drama. Plus, they both have larger-than-life personalities which - regardless of whether you agree with their actions or not - definitely pull you in.
You
OK, Ginny & Georgia has a bright and cheery vibe to it, despite some of the storylines. But if you're looking for something that takes on a darker edge, Netflix's You might be the perfect fit.
As you'll know, Georgia's got a knack for moulding her personality to fit certain scenarios and climb up social ladders. In You, Penn Badgley's character of Joe Goldberg also morphs his personality to be more in keeping with the person he's fallen for.
Plus, he also harbours some pretty dark secrets from his past, like Georgia.
Dead to Me
Looking to scratch that suburban crime drama itch? Dead to Me will be right up your street. Starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini as Jen Harding and Judy Hale, the series follows the two women as they form a ride-or-die friendship in the most unlikely of circumstances.
And just like Ginny & Georgia, it also embraces the comedy element, as Jen and Judy embark on plenty of Thelma and Louise-style escapades throughout. From trying to get away with murder to trying to raise a family, both shows have some pretty common themes that viewers will be able to recognise.
Never Have I Ever
Just like Ginny & Georgia, Netflix's Never Have I Ever unpacks the realness of coming-of-age. It stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi Vishwakumar, an Indian American teenage girl who wants to improve her status at school.
While simultaneously documenting the empowerment and support of high school friendships and the inevitable hormone-fuelled crises that come with it, this show is a must-see.
Oh, and if you needed anymore incentive, it's also created by the absolute legend that is Mindy Kaling.
Jane the Virgin
Jane the Virgin has a similar mother-daughter dynamic to Ginny & Georgia. The show follows a young Catholic woman named Jane, who learns her doctor accidentally artificially inseminated her during a check-up.
What follows is the discovery that the biological donor is her boss (and also her former crush), causing her to have to choose between the father of her unborn child or her boyfriend who she'd been with for two years.
Plus Wednesday's Jenna Ortega stars as young Jane, so if you're having Jenna withdrawal too, it's a perfect fix.
Killing Eve
If Georgia and her secretive past is what kept you hooked, Killing Eve should be your next go-to series. (That's if you've not watched it, of course.)
It stars Sandra Oh as an MI6 agent, Eve who is tasked with catching the female assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). As the chase goes on, the two find out that they're more alike than they think, and begin to develop a mutual obsession with each other.
Definitely more in the thriller category than Ginny & Georgia, but completely encapsulating, nonetheless.
Firefly Lane
Firefly Lane stars Katherine Heigl as Tully and Roan Curtis as Kate who have been best friends since they were teenagers. The show follows two separate timelines - one in the 70s, where the two become pals, and the other in present day, where they're still just as close as ever.
In terms of Ginny & Georgia, the main similarity is the complex mother-daughter bond that Tully shares with her bohemian mum, Cloud (Beau Garrett).
Riverdale
Some of the darker elements of Ginny & Georgia might remind you of this popular thriller, also available on Netflix.
Set in the small town of Riverdale, a group of teenagers Veronica (Camila Mendes), Jughead (Cole Sprouse), Betty (Lili Reinhart), and Archie (KJ Apa) find themselves hunting serial killers, fighting in gang war, falling into cults and getting involved in dirty politics.
Plus, the small town vibe is also pretty similar, too.
Ginny & Georgia season two is now streaming on Netflix.
