WATCH: Jessica Chastain is poker royalty in Molly’s Game trailer
Based on the memoirs of former Olympic-class skier Molly Bloom, Molly’s Game is the story of how Bloom eventually becomes the head honcho of the world’s most exclusive, high-stakes underground poker den.
In the first Molly’s Game trailer, we see Bloom (Jessica Chastain) struggling as a waitress before her boss tells her to run his weekly poker games at the famous Cobra Lounge. The venue becomes hugely successful, attracting the titans of Wall Street and even celebrities who “go all in all the time”. It’s been reported that even Hollywood actor Tobey Maguire patronised the joint at one point.
Then she gets arrested by the FBI. Check out the Molly’s Game trailer below:
Idris Elba stars as Bloom’s defence lawyer while Kevin Costner plays her father. The cast also includes Michael Cera, Chris O’Dowd and Graham Greene. Jessica Chastain is one of my favourite actresses of all time and I’d watch anything with her in it. She’s also joining the cast of X-Men: Dark Phoenix reportedly as Shi’ar Empress, Lilandra.
Also, I just had to show off my photo with Chastain when she came to Singapore in 2016 for The Huntsman: Winter’s War premiere.
But this taut drama is also the directorial debut of screenwriter and playwright Aaron Sorkin. Yes, the scribe behind highly acclaimed TV shows and films such as The West Wing, The Social Network and Steve Jobs. If his previous works are anything to go by, we can bet that Molly’s Game is going to be gripping.
Chastain, Elba and Sorkin? Smells like Oscar bait to me and I’m sold!
